Yamato — Restaurant in St. John

They served me bad fish. I got the Philadelphia roll and it was spoiled. When I called to try and rectify the situation, they told me that what I was tasting was smoked salmon. I’m sorry but smoked salmon doesn’t taste SOUR. They actually told me to dispute the charge with my bank because they won’t give me a refund. I don’t want a replacement roll- they already served me bad fish once.

The girl at the front desk tried to help but I’m guessing the owners would not let her work with me.

For clarification/update: I said I did not want to drive back for a refund of $8 for the one roll. If I drove back then I’d just return all of the food for the $50 refund but you said you would not do that. So now we’re here. All I wanted was an $8 refund for one item that was inedible. You spoke to my brother but I was the one that paid...

This is the closest Chinese food restaurant for us, and we have tried it at least 6 times, all carryout. We have ordered Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken. Our orders average $25=$35 for three people. The flavors were good, however the chicken is routinely dry and the batter coating hard. The first time that I noticed this I called back to the restaurant and they promptly offered to remake the dish. The result was more of the same. I think they also use the dark meat of the chicken. So I ordered Mongolian beef the next time, hardly any meat. Also, if you want sauces for your egg rolls you better get them before you leave, as they are not in the carryout bag. Very disappointed. This restaurant may continue to exist only through lack of competition...

I ordered for the first time recently. While the sushi menu isn't extensive, the rolls I ordered were pretty good. The fried rice only came with the meats which was a surprise as other places usually include eggs and veggies, but I did enjoy the quality of meat it had. I also appreciated that it wasn't loaded with MSG and oil.....was just enough flavor like home cooked fried rice. The crab rangoon was nice and crispy with enough filling and flavor. I was just disappointed that they shorted me one but I understand that mistakes happen. No biggie. I'm glad they're close by so that I can order a heartwarming meal when I'm too busy or tired to cook. Hope the standards stay the same because it's disappointing when the quality...
