This is a place to come drink beer! The do not serve mixed drinks but to have 6 wine selects of average vintage ($6 - $10 per glass) for those that prefer going to a brewery for wine.
While Civil Life is a small brewery known for making excellent beers, there full line of products isn't available at restaurants, one one or two selections at any given locations. At their Brewery, they offer a dozen or more of their products for $2.50 (1/2 English Pint - 10 oz) or $5.00 (English Pint - 20 oz). Everything is served nice and cold and even the glasses are quickly chilled.
The bar area offers standard seating and there is a long community table that seats 30. Around the corner are a couple of dart boards and a ring toss on a bull horn game (excellent for testing your sobriety). Upstairs offers 3 small enclosed booths to chat with friends and several tables. Many books and board games are available to share with friends and have a fun evening out.
Outside (weather permitting) includes many tables and a nice patio area. It is open to the industrial area around it so not much to see (maybe some plants or trees would be nice).
The Brewery also offers merchandise such as hats, shirts, jackets, scarfs, stickers, growlers, and so forth.
CASH ONLY BAR!!!
The only accept cash and often give change in silver dollars which is kind of cool.
There are a few limited food options, mainly cold sandwiches that are tasty but basic. I wouldn't try to make a meal of them but they are good to snack on while drinking.
Fun place and highly...
Read moreWe Love The Civil Life not just for the beer and awesome service and relaxed vibe. We love the food too.We believe there is enough reviews on here to tell you that the beer is great,it really is. What you may not know is the food is awesome too. Sandwich Club met up here on a cold winter Saturday around 1 pm. Each of us ordered something different from their small but very diverse menu, mostly consisting of sandwich related items and English style pub fair.We ordered the Garlic Roast Beef sandwich the Cajun Turkey the Hot Pastrami & A G&W Sausage on a pretzel bun.Oh we got a Pretzel with Braunschweiger or Liverwurst. We gotta say we loved everything we got.We wont go into to much detail on each sandwich other than they are great way to soak up the many beers you should try.Love it here. #Sandwichclubstl For the love...
Read moreFavorite brewery in STL. Most relaxing and laid back vibe. Not a lot in terms of beer style variety but they're all great and have plenty of complexity for as "simple" and low ABV as they are. Highly drinkable and you can have a few and not worry much about the ABV catching up.
Great outdoor area and even more space since expansion on the side of the building. Lovely bar, a few dart boards in a separate area in the brewing area and a bullhorn/ring swing game. My favorite is upstairs - cozy wooden booths that extend well above the head. Enough space for a small group but quiet and chill to play some board games available (or bring your own) or just talk.
I've since moved from STL to Boston and came back for the first time in a few years. I search for a place like this in Boston and just can't find one. I miss it...
