Disclaimer, this review not based on the food, as my daughter and I walked out due to the awful atmosphere before we even ordered. If you are thinking this Bevo Mill is anything like the fine dining establishment from years ago, think again. Only the historic exterior remains as a sad reminder of what it once was. So many tables crammed into the front room, most filled with patrons talking loudly because you couldn't hear over the din. Cheap, tacky tables, no tablecloths, and the menu was a photocopied red piece of paper. The paper menu differed greatly from the online menu (many items offered online missing from the paper menu), plus the prices were higher than those listed online. We had come for a special occasion, and this was tacky, cheap, overbooked and too loud to talk. Whoever bought this place is just out to make a buck with so many tables cheek to jowl crammed next to each other, We left and drove 3 minutes to a wonderful Bosnian restaurant and had a great meal in a beautiful setting. Bevo Mill is gone, "Das" Bevo was a major disappointment.Due to so many people there, I will have to admit that maybe the food is good. But I had it in my mind of how it used to be. Such high prices, to eat crammed into a tiny table where I couldn't hear my daughter two feet away from me? No Thanks, too many great places to eat in St.Louis!

Update 12/22/18: Das Bevo replied to my review and implied that I know the value of nothing. Well, I do know a few things. I know that your online menu selection and prices should be the same as the flimsy red paper menu in the venue. I know the host and /or hostess should be nicely dressed, not in ripped and sloppy jeans. I know you should not overbook, as when we were waiting (we had a reservation) a woman named Monica was loudly complaining that her reservation time was not being honored. I know if you are charging $25 for an entree, you can afford a tablecloth and napkin. I know there are enough people like me who remember what the Bevo Mill was like and , not unreasonably, might expect something along the lines of that great establishment now. They need to know that it is a beergardern, spring-summer-fall and winter. Mind, it's not being marketed as just a beergarden. No, you are trading on the "history" of the Bevo Mill. The history is good German food in a fine dining setting. That is not you. You run a beergarden, that just happens to be located in a historically significant building. You should go with that, and stop trying to make out that you are somehow "saving" the Bevo. Somehow I doubt altruism is your...

Das Bevo was the absolute perfect place for my wedding, especially since I chose to do a brunch and end the day earlier than most weddings. Being able to get ready and have my ceremony and reception all in the same place was wonderful. Brendon was a delight to work with throughout the planning process and was quick to respond when I had questions. When showing us around the venue he made sure to point out the best spots to pose for photos. He was especially helpful in making sure the bridal party knew what we were doing during rehearsal. No odd-angled arm photos for us! The beauty of the architecture speaks for itself and made it much easier in terms of decorating. There was a snafu with incorrect linens being delivered but Brendon saved the day with a quick run to Majorette for similar tablecloths and everything looked perfect. Throughout our day, Brenden and the rest of the staff was wonderful and prompt to addressing anything we needed all the way down to helping us load up our cars at the end of the day. The brunch buffet was delicious— we received so many compliments that our wedding was the best people had ever attended thanks to a great combination of timing, venue and food! There were a few things with the facility that could be improved. The lights in the vestibule where we had our table flickered constantly — probably a wiring issue. It would’ve been nice if less things were stored at the bottom of the Mill where we waited to walk down the aisle. The room is beautiful and would’ve been great for more photos but it was cluttered with sound equipment and miscellaneous decor. Upstairs, a few small trash cans would have made for easier cleanup. As a historic preservation professional I noticed some issues in the Mill that could be avoided with a little routine maintenance. Plaster is falling in a few places and some of the rooms and staircases had to be swept upon arrival. Keeping the Mill climate controlled as best as possible, including use of a dehumidifier, would help with the plaster failure. There were also a few spindles missing from the staircases and the gaps had nails sticking up— this was a big hazard for me as I walked through with my...

We had really great expectations for a nice dinner with our teenagers before the Garden Glow tonight, but were sorely disappointed. It started when they couldn't find the reservation that I had made the day before. No problem since the restaurant was practically empty. We were seated, provided water and then left there for 20 minutes. When we finally inquired about our waitstaff, we were told that our waitress had just been moved outside, but we would get a waiter within a few moments. 5 minutes later, after numerous waiters walked by without even acknowledging our presence, one of the manager passed our table, looked at us and without saying a word went to a table that had been seated after us to see if they had been waited on yet. My "you have got to be kidding me!" must have been loud enough for him to hear as he abruptly left their table and asked us if we had been helped. We advised that we hadn't and had been waiting over 20 mins now. We were then told that they were short staff, but would take care of us right away. Couldn't have been further from the truth. He did return to take our order and get our drinks, which were always running dry since he was busy still trying to set another area up for a large party that was coming shortly. Once our order was in, the food timing and delivery was average. Food quality and taste was just acceptable, not enough to make me overlook the poor quality of service. It took another 15 minutes to track him down after we finished to get our check, again because he was running around still prepping, and was seemed to think we should thank him that he took it upon himself to serve us. It really was a shame as the building and ambiance is excellent. I just wish the food and service would have been as exciting. Das Bevo is off our...

This place is absolutely beautiful for a wedding reception and could have the potential to be one of the best wedding venues in STL. There isn't historic ambiance like this anywhere else. I am flexible and understand changes but my wedding coordinator left a few months before our ceremony/reception. This was after they told us the restaurant closed. That was actually a benefit because we had better food catered in at a much cheaper rate. However, what I am not flexible in is the upkeep of the property. The ceremony was May 24, 2019 and it was an extremely hot day. The area where the bride gets ready was over 100 degrees. And Bevo had no way to add fans or any AC to the area. The windmill itself had the same issue. We ended up moving chairs and going home for fans but the experience was horrible. The windmill needs some TLC. I understand you might not want to continue renovating because of cost but cover the ugly areas with curtains or card board so guests don't have to see it and pictures are easier to work around. I also had to ask them to clean up the area the night before when I did my walk through. If I hadn't asked, I am not sure it would have been done. I also had to ask them to mow the grass. But they did do what I requested. The windmill and biergarten was stunning. My guests raved all night about the experience. There just needs to be some cleaning and decorating completed outside. Nothing that would cost much. Some new strings of lights since half of them are burnt out and some sweeping/re staining on the patio. I still had a wonderful time despite the above and would completely recommend to everyone. I would just be clear on your expectations upfront going into it

The architecture is absolutely amazing! It makes one feel like you could be walking around Bavaria in Germany. The beautiful architecture is on the outside and the inside. Now, having said that, that's where the good review stops - period. We arrived before 5p on a Saturday night and the staff and establishment was simply not ready to operate and visibly in chaos. As we referenced the website, to double check what we were getting into, it was not clear if it was a restaurant, bar or rental venue. Therefore, upon asking the staff minutes after opening what it was we were told it was a restaurant with no table service; translation, a bar where you can order food. With the amazing German architecture one would think they would play German beer garden music, nope, they played modern music - it was an atmosphere killer. Also when other guests had walked in and asked for a menu the staff (of one person) literally couldn't locate it and this was about 10 minutes after opening. It was very clear the establishment was not ready for a Saturday night (and they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday). When a guest has to nearly beg for a menu it greatly reduces ones faith in the ability of those running and operating the establishment to live up to anything they advertise. You are encouraged to visit this place for photographs on the outside and inside otherwise spend your money elsewhere, their chaotic business operation is not worthy of your money.
