Tonight was the night I’d been waiting for: Tiny Chef’s Tteokbokki Special!!!

I’d had Tiny Chef’s Korean Crab Boil to-go before (which is amazingly delicious, and you should order it when Chef Melanie has it available), but this was my first time getting to order it in-person at the Silver Ballroom.

If it’s your first time ordering in-person, it can be intimidating when you walk through the doors of the Silver Ballroom, but trust me my friend, it is well worth it. (You can also call to order, but sometimes it’s so busy the phones go down.)

Tiny Chef offers several varieties of Tteokbokki: Red, White, and Pink sauce. Red is for those who love spice in their life. White is for those whose bodies won’t let them enjoy spice and instead offers delicious, creamy savoriness. And pink is for those who want a little bit of both worlds.

The Tteokbokki tonight was INCREDIBLE. It was everything I dreamed a Korean rice cake would be and more. Light, fluffy rice deliciousness that melts in your mouth and brings a soft smile to your face is my description. It was so good I came back with another person to share a second dish…

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of experiencing Tiny Chef for yourself, please do yourself a favor and try out some of her amazing Korean...

The tiny chef is a must visit in the St. Louis area. This micro-kitchen is located inside the back of the very neat ballroom pinball bar. Everyone in the restaurant and bar are both inviting and friendly. The chefs all came out to talk to me and make sure everything was exceptional- which it was. While you wait for your food you are able to play pinball in the bar area in the room next over. (The door does say patrons must be 21+, but I believe they allow minors to eat). The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Chef, Melanie Meyer, has created bold delicious flavors within her tiny yet ever changing menu. I ordered the tofu bibimbap bowl and it is a must order. It was a great healthy size. Enough to fill you up and have a little left over but not too much that you are over eating. When you come here you need to know what you are getting. Everything is made from scratch in house even including the rice cakes. The quality is exceptional. The prices are very reasonable for the high quality product you are receiving. You get what you pay for- and you are paying for fresh high quality food made in house. By the looks of the building you wouldn’t expect delicious authentic Korean cuisine, but that is exactly what they provide. This is top notch dining and...

Overall good! A little pricey for "street" food, and Korean food "inspired", not "traditional". "Nuclear" noodles were ok.. portion was very small, the noodles seemed like "instant snack"..? But the sauce was fantastic and very very HOT/Spicy, just the way I expected! Both spicy and sweet sauce tacos are great, highly recommended. I don't know what real 'char siu' is supposed to taste like but the seasoned tofu is Really Good! I hope her seasoned mushrooms make it back on the menu! "Bibim" rice bowl is a solid choice, too, good portion, nice texture/crunch, good ratio of sauce/veggies/rice, again not "traditional" but still yum. And the eggs were cooked to perfection! The "kimchi", don't know if it's housemade, but also really decent, a little closer to a fermented, spicy salad, but still good very good, fresh, did not taste like the gross supermarket stuff, or that it was just tossed together that morning. I hope they consider paper boats, instead of plastic for serving.. Got super busy...

I wasn’t sure what I was craving for dinner tonight but when I stumbled across this on Google, the photos of the food instantly caught my attention. I’ve never had bibimbap nor radish stew before, but decided to give both a try at the recommendation of the chef and was so very happy with not only the taste and the spectacular presentation, but with the speed of service as well! I had my food in less than five minutes, I was literally in and out ready to chow down at home! The Silver Ballroom has always come across as a bit of a hole in the wall from the outside, and may still appear so on the inside, but like many “holes in the wall” in St. Louis it has a lot of charm and character from their gentle and colorful glowing lights down to their pinball room full of unique machines. I’m not much of a bar goer, but the tiny bustling kitchen and the dark, yet warm ambiance inside makes a return trip very much worth it. Thanks so much for the experience, I will be back!
