There were 4 of us trying for the first time.
We all agreed on the following:
5 stars for the atmosphere and decor and the service.
3 stars for the quality of the food.
2 stars for the value of food to perceived value.
The pea soup had some uncooked pieces, just warm and just ok.
The egg salad (their famous), was pretty good )my wife makes it better).
I had the Herta veggie sandwich. It was tasty, but not enough or big enough. They need bigger bread to look like you are getting more.
I had the kasha knish. After we noticed how little amount of kasha it had I showed the staff. They agreed there should be more. I was given another knish. It was exactly the same, mostly bread and little kasha. So, I won’t do that again as it was disappointing.
The cabbage slaw was really good and we were given samples of things and most were good.
The bottle line is we have 3 stars as we wish them well, but really 2.5 stars may fit our experience.
The desserts looked wonderful, but I felt that as the food was both good and not so great, the desserts might follow suit. We also were surprised that they are just sitting out for everybody to come and breath on without a cover.
As we left, we walked through the market. We feel it may have been better to have people walk through the market both in and out. Or, better for sales. I’m sure it was considered that way…
We will be back one day and try the kugel and maybe a dessert. We hope they do well as STL really needs another deli. The creativity of the place IS...
Read moreI have been wanting to try Deli Divine since I first read about it. I will preface this with saying I do not eat meat so I always have limited options.
Where Deli Divine shines: • Great Atmosphere-the attention the detail is fantastic. They have vintage chairs and tables for seating. They have a new take on an old staple. The staff even wear blue coats 🧥 a reminiscent take on an old deli shop white coat. Hundreds of old photos surround the shop. • Friendly Staff • Nice variety on their menu
Where they miss • Interesting location- It is inside with side access to Delmar Divine. They are at street level. It’s an up and coming location but it’s not a the easiest to locate at first and doesn’t have a Deli vibe from the street. • They went above and beyond in details to have an authentic deli feel but then missed with basic silverware 🥄. Plastic cups and corn based biodegradable serving ware is used instead 😒. Appreciate being more bio based but missing the real deal. • Purchased a knish and it’s not hot!!! You are asked to go around the corner and use a microwave 😢. Them heating in a toaster oven would be a little better but this is a BIG miss for me. • Egg salad sandwich was good but needed more flavor and could have been Piled higher
Overall, we enjoyed the experience and I will be back to try a few more items. I hope they have tuna salad back in...
Read moreBottom line, this is the second best deli I’ve been to anywhere — second is an incredible place to land on!
I used to live down the street from Katz’s Deli in NYC and ate there far more regularly than I care to admit. The pastrami on rye I had at Deli Divine is second only to Katz’s, and I’ve made an effort to try every well-known Jewish style deli on the east and west coasts. There was a review that said Cantor’s is better — no way. I’m from LA; the Deli Divine pastrami blows Cantor’s and Langer’s away. I’d even say Deli Divine’s pastrami is also better than Wexler’s, which is too lean.
What’s good. Each slice of pastrami is thick and has the right balance of lean and fat. Rye is spot on. Mustard is good. Lastly, the peppered crust is how it should be: thick and caked on.
The matzo ball soup is solid, although the matzo ball for me could be a little lighter, but that’s a personal preference thing. It’s good soup. You can taste the subtle schmaltz, which tastes lovely.
Now, here’s why I gave four stars. The Dr. Browns they served was warm. Dr. Brown’s should always be served at one temperature and one temperature only: ice cold. Second thing is for ~$17 they should serve about double the pastrami that you get.
I’m definitely going to be a...
