Last night's production of Bernstein's Candide was nothing short of fabulous. Union Avenue Opera does a wonderful job with limited resources and a small stage. It was, as always, a showcase for amazing singing. Jesse Darden's Broadway-worthy voice was marvelous. Brooklyn Snow's effortless voice came close to shattering the beautiful stained-glass windows in the sublime old church that serves as the venue. But my star was Christopher Nelson, whose rich tenor voice belongs in Italian opera.
