A very disappointing restaurant. I went there with high hopes. It was a different type of cuisine and it had great reviews. I went there as my choice before I had back surgery, so it was a big deal for me on what I ate before the surgery.
The first thing I notice is that the interior looks old and tired. Probably a labor of love when it first opened, it looks like little has been done to maintain it in good condition. Flags, Pictures, Decorations.... All looks limp and faded.
The menu is pretty small, which isn't always a bad thing because you can take more time to make the few dishes well. Not the case here. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken dinner which came with rice, soup, naan, and obviously the chicken. The rice was undercooked and had absolutely no flavor. I'm doubtful that they even added a bit of salt to the rice as it was cooking. Plus, being undercooked, led me to just move on and not eat it. The next was the soup 'Dal' which I'm a big fan of. Once again, it lacked flavor. It kinda tasted like Dal that was watered down. The portion was incredibly small, so I went ahead an ate it. The naan... You guessed it, it had no flavor. Might as well have bought some bunny bread and ate it. I ate one piece, but meh, moved on to the chicken. The Tandoori Chicken was on the ok side. It had the basic Tandoori taste, but once again very bland. Had a little bit, but meh, by this time, I was ready to go home....defeated.
Now, a restaurant has the chance to make things up if they notice problems and ask about them. Here I am, the rice uneaten, only 1 piece of naan eaten and almost no chicken. Not a question about the taste or why I didn't eat hardly anything.
A very disappointing meal before my operation. This place could do with some attention and get the magic back that must have led to such a history of great reviews.
One last note on the menu. A lot of mistakes. One entry said boneless chicken then in the description said bone in chicken. So I had to ask for one of the dishes I was considering. Also, under vegetarian options, it shows a dish with eggs and a cheese dish. Both of these are not vegetarian. I'm not vegetarian, but it was just...
Read moreMy husband and I had lunch here last week with some friends who were home for the holidays. I've never been to a restaurant with this kind of range of cuisine, but as soon as someone says Indian I'm interested!
We went on a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30p. One person was lucky enough to get a meter right out in front, someone found a spot about a block away and I parked about three blocks away. It was obviously quite busy, so I guess it just comes down to luck! But we only had about a five minute wait to be seated which I thought was great considering how crowded they were!
After putting our things down on our table, we hurried off to the buffet line to see what our options would be. I have to say that I am not a huge fan of vegan food, so I was skeptical of the couple options I saw on the buffet. However, I decided to give it a try just in case. Boy am I glad I did! One was a curried zucchini that was absolutely fantastic! It had one of the creamiest, yummiest sauces I think I've ever tasted!! It tasted great with the sweet potato noodles, too!
My other favorite dish was the curried chicken. Because you can't go wrong with more curry or with chicken!
I quite enjoyed this little buffet and I will...
Read moreWe called to place a take out order and was quoted 40-45mins (which the guy did not tell me until after my order was placed and payment was provided) for pick up. We arrived around that timeframe and was told it would be another 10-15mins as they were running behind. Following the 10-15mins, we were told another 10-15mins. We informed the guy on the phone that we had a newborn in the car and needed a realistic time, again he kept giving us false info on the status of our order. This continued on until we were waiting for over 1.5 hours! Once we finally got our order, there was no offer to partially comp our meals. This made us feel that the business was greedy and more interested in making money than pleasing customers. Overall, it was a very frustrating situation and as someone who has been going to Everest Cafe for years, we will no longer be returning customers. Also to add to this, we got home to find that the Chap Chae was cooked wrong and the chicken korma...
