Iād like to start by saying that although Iāve had several negative experiences at Rehab before. This one was my worst and will likely result in my friends and I never returning and or spending my money in this establishment again. -January 14, 2020 my five friends and I decided to have a friends night out at Rehab because of their Tuesday All Day Happy Hour. I opened a tab for all of my friends to utilize that night. Three of my friends arrived and we decided to pay to play music on Touch Tunes. Mind you Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and etc. have been blasting through the speakers since we arrived. And aside from the bartender who was multiracial we were the only people of color there. When our hip-hop and R&B music began to play the workers decided to dramatically reduce the volume of the music. Which made us feel immediately uncomfortable and unwanted there. -Throughout the night getting drinks was literally like pulling teeth. There were maybe 20 people there max so clearly we felt blatantly ignored. Other customers received a friendly conversation and speedy service. At one point a friend and I literally spent over five minutes trying to get the female bartenders attention. She eventually threw up her pointer finger as if to tell us to wait. She then sat down and began texting on her cell phone. There was NO attempt at friendly service, no smiles, no hurry at all. -About 30 minutes later I went to meet someone at another bar in the Grove. However, before that I introduced the bartender to my friend and told him that another female friend would be there shortly and their drinks would also be on my tab. He said he understood and would take care of my group. However, when I got back 15 minutes later my friend told me that this same bartender refused to put her drink on my tab and she was forced to pay although not only was she sitting with my party but theyād vouched for her as well. -Towards the end of the night the male bartender comes and leans across our table and shouts that he doesnāt āknow who it is but someone smells loud asfā and our group needs to āgo out to the patio to air out for a while.ā It was embarrassing and everyone else in the bar turned to focus their attention on us to see what was happening. The only people of color singled out, accused of smoking weed after we had been sitting inside the bar for at least an hour and a half, and then told to go sit outside in the winterās cold. -To top it off their pricing and authorization charges ended up being completely different from their posted signage. Which Iām not sure about anyone else but SCREAMS deception to me.
This is unfortunate on soo many levels because LGBTQ people of color living in STL donāt have many(if any) places to go. Places where they feel comfortable and free from judgement. Itās very clear now that no matter how inclusive this establishment claims to be, they simply are not. Iām aware that this wonāt change anything, but in the hopes that it will I am sharing my experience. I want others who have felt this way in this establishment and others to know that they are not alone. Our issues are not minor, theyāre only small to people ignorant to our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took my friends to this bar last night. Iāve been going here for years and it was the first place I felt accepted at. It holds a special place in my heart. Last night, I went into a bathroom stall with my friend to help her undo her skirtās zipper. I am aware of the one per stall rule, but Iāve not have this issue in the past when helping friends as typically we donāt take long in the bathroom, so it doesnāt hold up the line. While in the bathroom, we had someone bang on the door and tell us about the one per stall rule. We called back and informed the person that I had been helping my friend undo her zipper and she was currently putting in a tampon and weād be out in a minute. After another minute, the person knocked again. Again, we repeated, please just a second. We were done in 5 minutes total, at most. After that, we had a security guard wearing a āDonāt tread on meā patch tell us that we were being removed to the bar. There was no attempt made to ask us what had been doing on. We asked why and were told that security didnāt know the reason, but we were being removed. The security guard kept repeating āI donāt know, just leave.ā We calmly explained the situation to security and asked to speak to someone higher to explain the situation. We were denied and removed from the bar. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. This was the first place after I moved to STL that made me feel safe as a gay woman. To walk into a bar whose bathroom didn't even have a location in the stall for my friend to trash her to tampon was upsetting. To then be removed from that bar for doing something women do all the timeāgo into a stall with a friend to help her undo her outfit, hold her things, etc. is so deeply upsetting. I understand the desire to keep bathroom lines going, but if I think itās pretty clear when two people are in a stall together holding things up by engaging with each other. Anyone there in that bathroom could know that this was not the case. To be frank, the Rehab bathrooms may be one of the top ten least sexy environments Iāve ever encountered. I am so disappointed in Rehabās inability to understand the feminine experience. All people, regardless of gender identity, deserve a queer space. Iāve had a slew of negative experiences at Rehab over the years. But Iāve written most of them off as the typically bar experiences (being groped by men, having a friend get roofied, etc.). But, after this experience, Iām realizing that perhaps many of my experiences have been unique to the feminine experience at Rehab. To reiterate, all queer people deserve a place of belonging, not just the white men you predominantly cater to. The demeanor of the staff were unfriendly and the attire of the security guard who approached us was frankly inappropriate for such a space and made me feel...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to rehab yesterday night and there was this really rude bouncer that was on the outer area where the drag performances are and when I was exiting to go to the parking lot after having my ID and bag ALREADY checked after going through the front, I went out for a couple minutes to get my friend and then I tried going back in on the other side of the pole and he had me get back in line to have my ID and bag double checked again even though he literally saw me leave and come back in. he had me come back in line with my friend and have my bag and ID double-checked and he made a big fuss about it and said you still have to have your ID and bag checked when you come back even if you leave, he said "people who work need respect to" this and that, as if I didn't know that? I've worked a million customer service jobs. He said "I'm telling you that because you made a face at me like four times" and by the way I did not do that, if I did make a face it was probably just my rbf and it was nothing personal. He literally was withholding my ID until I listened to what he said and agreed with it or said something back, he was like do you understand what I'm saying, do you understand what I'm saying and I was not making eye contact I was not responding, because if I started talking I was going to throw a fit so I decided to hold my tongue to be smart, but he was pushing it so I just said okay in order to get my ID back, then he gave me my ID back and said very rudely haVe a gReAt nigHt bAbE. I went and I was not able to enjoy the rest of my night there because he absolutely wrecked my mood so I so when I was leaving I decided to flip him off, and this man literally went on a 2-minute rant, he told me never to come back again he told me nobody cares where you go ,nobody cares, this and that and he was he like got up after I left the general bar area and wasn't even looking at him and I was like out on the street at this point and he got up out of his seat and was like screaming after me and I could still hear him and it was so scary, he was screaming so loudly. I don't even know what he was saying, it was all nonsense and hatred as if he had this personal vendetta against me. I genuinely have no idea what his problem was but he needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY. Everyone else there (bartenders, drag queens, the OTHER bouncer by the door)...
