So the overall rating is an average of how the food was, a 5 out of 5, combined with the service, which I rate a 2 out of 5. I'm rounding down cause I don't think my experience deserves a 4. Despite the 3 rating, I believe it is a good place to get Thai food from.
So we came from out of town and we ordered the Pad Ka Prao, the Kao Pad, and the Pad Thai. For the taste and the quantity, relative to the price, the food was quite good. My mother and wife got the Pad Thai and fried rice (the Kao Pad) respectively, and they were both pleased. For myself, the Pad Ka Prao hit all the right spots as well.
About the service: it mostly boils down to the server so it may not reflect the place as a whole. The server made the mistake of inputting a previous table's order as our own, so when they came out with the wrong food, they ended up having to take our order again. If we hadn't been waiting 30-40 minutes already, this wouldn't have been as big of a deal but that soured our experience. Another thing was, for my order, I had specified mild, and when I ate my food I noticed it was kind of spicy for mild. I can handle my spice so I thought that maybe that level of spice was mild but looking at the receipt, it specified medium. Meaning it was inputted incorrectly. Lastly, the server was relaxing behind the counter when our table had already finished eating and I walked up to pay our bill (this place has the server bring out the check to the table).
The only saving aspect of their conduct was suggesting getting a juice for our 2 year old, which may have been just upselling, but considering our son liked it, it was satisfying.
So overall, our food experience would have been nice if it hadn't been tainted by the server's behavior. Also, I believe this server was not new as they were handling the lunch crowd by themselves (it wasn't busy enough to give them the benefit of the doubt; source: I am a former server) so I expected something greater from...
Read moreForks & Stix is one of the best kept secrets in Saint Louis. Its location is tucked away down a side street off the historic Delmar Street; only blocks from University City's restaurant and entertainment district called "The Loop." Warning: Parking is a challenge but your perseverance to find a space will pay off for your tummy. There's a large public parking lot behind the large music venue nearby. Forks & Stix space is a tiny restaurant reminiscent of the mom and pop Thai eateries located in cities like Brooklyn or San Francisco. If you're planning to bring a party over 4 people, good luck finding a table in less than 45 minutes! They don't take reservations but if someone in your larger party can arrive early, getting your party's name in for a table will help. Their menu is simple but has something for everyone. They offer the standard Thai appetizers and entrees that are all tasty but the best kept secret is their Khao Soi. Words cannot describe the flavors behind Khao Soi. It's heaven in a bowl. Delicate rice noodles swim in a mustard-based curry broth, including hints of sour notes from vinegar and lime. The dish is coordinated with both a bed of soft rice noodles and crunchy rice noodles on top. Pick your protein, it doesn't really matter but Chicken Khao Soi seems the best choice. You'll never be disappointed with their Khao Soi, in fact, ask them to double the soft rice noodles in the bowl for an extra treat. Be warned, the metal square soup spoon they serve with this bowl is meant to be used! Do not waste a single drop of the zestful curry broth with every bite of your...
Read moreThe food is decent but the service tonight was horrible. I normally dine in but at times I will phone in my order for pick up. I'm not sure if this was the manager I was dealing with this evening but her attitude stunk horribly. I had been there on a number of occasions and pretty much get the same thing and have it cooked the same way but she was literally arguing with me, the customer, basically telling me that they never cook it the way I was asking and even after telling her I have had it cooked there the way she was stating how they never cook it, I was floored. B/c in so many words she was calling me a liar. Who does that? I'm not sure if there was a culture barrier but there are certain ways to conduct a business and handle particular situations especially if you want customers to come back to your establishment. I was 2 seconds from leaving the food there and walking out and taking my business elsewhere. They are one of the few Thai restaurants that stay open late but there are other thai restaurants in STL that are 3 times better than fork and stix. This particular individual should invest in a class in customer service and learn how to satisfy the customer instead of arguing with them like an idot. Very unprofessional! Needless to say I...
