After an afternoon at the opera house in the Lou yesterday, I was looking to celebrate Peru’s Independence Day with some authentic Peruvian food, and I am so glad Brasas showed up first in my search results! It was my first time visiting this newly opened restaurant.
This is a small, pristine and welcoming place. The music was a bit loud but being Independence Day I thought “why not?” since it was all authentic Peruvian songs.
The staff, especially my waitress was very friendly. Everything was delicious and the flavours were as close as I could get to my Peruvian tasty dishes. I was hoping for a good ending to my meal with a tasty dessert but all they had was ice cream. Between other flavours they offered lucuma ice cream which is a native fruit that grows in the Andean valleys of some South American countries, including Peru.
Like a good Peruvian, I ordered the pollo a la brasa but requested the rotisserie potatoes instead of the steak fries and they did not disappoint! I had to order a second side of them. I also had a to-go order of Chaufa Aeropuerto (best $30 I ever spent on food! My daughters fell in love with this mix of deliciousness 😋) and the yucca croquettes with Huancaina. If you are a fan of seasoned rice like we are, YOU HAVE TO TRY THE CHAUFA!
The only thing I disliked was that I was offered a refill on my drink unaware it would count as a second charge. I only agreed to it because I thought it was a free refill, I really did not need a second chicha morada. Also, too much ice on the chicha waters down the drink really quickly and it does not taste as authentic. You may want to revise the way this drink is served. As the restaurant grows, please do consider incorporating traditional Peruvian desserts like arroz con leche, mazamorra morada or leche asada. Just a thought 😉
I have no regrets about what I paid for this visit as I drove 90 minutes back home satisfied and happy and at the same time, I brought happiness to my children who love food as...
Read moreBrasas is a place I didn’t know of until I was assigned to cover photos for them. I am glad I did. It’s a nice cozy place and the staff were so kind and friendly. After done with my business in Beasas, the food looked great and I had to order their main dish which was the Peruvian rotisserie chicken that came with 2 sides (garlic rice and fried plantain) were my sides and it came with three different cremas. (Mild, spicy cilantro, and spicy ). Speaking of the latter, the mild was good and it tasted close to ketchup+mayo , the spicy cilantro was really refreshing and flavorful, and the spicy one had lots of flavor packed in it as well. As good these cremas were, I didn’t use much of them with the chicken, I did with the rice and with the plantain which believe it or not, it worked “at least for me”. The garlic rice was cooked well and had a subtle garlic yet it was flavorful. The fried plantains were on point. Caramelized to perfection and they were sweet and melted in your mouth, when dipping them with the crema, the contrast creates a great harmonious flavors. Now going to the main star of the meal, the chicken. The main reason I didn’t go on with eaten kg the chicken with the cremas is that the chicken was filled with flavor, well seasoned and the cooked to perfection. I had the dark meat and it was so juicy and tender meat. The flavors were beyond the skin part unlike lots of people other places where you only find flavors on the skin and not the meat under. Over all, a must try restaurant, I will be back and have to try other menu items and recommend chicken lovers to come here and they will be in...
Read moreWe had a such a lovely dinner at Brasas on Halloween night. I was glad that I made a reservation because the restaurant is quite small, and I noticed every single table was reserved. The moment I walked through the door, I thought to myself, “wow such a cozy place with fun vibe for a date night.” We ordered a few dishes to share among 2 of us. Alitas nikkei (wings served along with cilantro lime and ranch) was the bomb! It’s so good that I almost ordered the second dish. I know, it was finger licking’ good!!! Next, the Aji Amarillo chicken curry was a mouthful of taste. The curry texture was very smooth and creamy. Chicken was tender and flavorful. My least favorite was the anticuchos beef heart. I really liked the flavor but didn’t like the texture of it. Next time I would try the beef strip loin instead. We also got chicha morada (purple corn drink) and passion fruit cheese cake for dessert. Overall, good food, good service. I can see myself coming...
