I'm really confused by this place. My husband had been craving a good gyro so we were excited to try their food after seeing them a few days prior while walking on Delmar. We ordered the spanakopita, a regular gyro, and their house gyro. The spanakopita was just a bit chewy and dry, but the flavor was good. I thought the house gyro was really good and my husband seemed to enjoy his gyro. I really have no complaints about the food. They weren't super friendly, but they definitely were not rude. The man didn't really acknowledge us much at all. The woman took our order and was very casual about it. The restaurant was clean.
My complaint..... as we were eating I saw the man that had made our food, digging through the trash with no gloves on and pulling out what appeared to be recyclables and plastic cups. I mentioned this to my husband and told him it was a bit concerning for him to do that with no gloves on and while customers are sitting there observing him. The woman had just came out of the restroom so I went in to wash my hands (gyros can be messy) and I noticed the sink was bone dry--I am certain that she did not wash her hands after using the restroom. The toilet was still running so I know she had used the toilet. Then my husband mentions to me as we are walking out that while I was in the restroom he was watching the man (because of what I had told him) and he was pretty sure the man was washing the plastic cups that he had just dug out of the trash, like they planned to reuse them. I have no proof that is true since I didn't see it myself, but it is a bit concerning.
We thought we had found a new gyro place to frequent, but with all of these things there is no way I can get myself to go back there. Now I am having abnormal bowel movements so that REALLY makes me question things. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I cannot ignore this. Just be careful and observant if you are going to order...
Read moreI’ve been to Gyro House on numerous occasions and I have only had pleasant experiences! I have recommended it to many, many people, bragging about how fresh and delicious the food is! This evening I visited, and encounter a man (and I use that term lightly), who was extremely ignorant, rude, and obviously not educated enough to know the difference between “sandwich” and “kebab.” I attempted to order a kebab, based on what’s listed on THEIR menu , and he kept correcting me saying “Sandwich.” The definition of a kebab is “meat, veggies or fish, typically grilled, and served on a skewer or spit.” As opposed to the pathetic attempt at correcting the customer, perhaps he could have simply explained they didn’t have skewers, (which has happened in one of my previous visits, and is totally okay!) A total lack of class, etiquette, professionalism and couth. Attaching a few photos for reference in hopes that the next time a customer asks for an item listed on the menu, you’ll know the difference. And if you don’t want certain people patronizing your business, perhaps relocate to a location that’s not a melting pot of different...
Read moreThis place is hands down the best gyro I've found in the St. Louis area (and I'm from Chicago, where the gyro grows on trees and it rains tzatziki/cucumber sauce). I know my gyro, and Gyro House nails it every single time. I live about an hour away, and on multiple occasions I have made the drive all the way there JUST for the sole purpose of getting one of their gyro! Of course I usually order a side of meat to freeze and fry later at home, but my point is if you're looking for good gyro, this is the place. Also, the baklava is hands down the best I've ever had. Ever. The staff is incredibly friendly, the man behind the counter calls me "Sir Niko" which makes me feel incredibly important, and they will absolutely bend over backwards to customize your order and serve you up an unforgettable experience. Check it out. If you like gyro, hummus, falafel or baklava, you cannot go wrong with Gyro House!! Honorable mention: try the hummus and pita. My wife always orders the hummus and pita and raves about it...
