I booked a balayage and haircut with Valerie. At the end of the service, Valerie told me to send her pictures the next day to "see how the color turns out." (I left with wet hair, on my own volition, because I don't like how my hair looks after getting blow dried.) This morning I sent her pictures of my balayage, which turned out to be more of a reddish brown copper than the blonde we had discussed. I was surprised when she told me if I wanted a different color, I would need to book a new appointment. I asked if this would be a new service, rather than touching up what we had already done with some additional toner, and was told it would be. I then expressed that I had thought we agreed on blonde (not the coppery red it turned out to be) and was told not to contact her directly anymore. I'm frankly confused, because I thought she A) genuinely wanted me to let her know if I was happy with the final product, and B) in my past experiences with color (albeit at other salons), stylists have been very quick to offer any follow up modifications when the color doesn't turn out as planned, especially when the client is a repeat customer spending $180 (plus tip). Hate to complain because I've loved all of my haircuts with Valerie and this is my first negative experience, but it left a really bad taste in my mouth! I now feel compelled to share this with any future clients who would consider getting color or lightning. Beware, she won't offer to modify if you don't like the way it turns out. FWIW, we discussed a blonde balayge, so I'm not sure how me saying that I don't like the reddish copper color is me changing the terms of our agreed upon color. As a final point, I understand that capitalism is hard on all of us and everyone is overworked and underpaid. Definitely not trying to be a difficult customer, and would have understood if she had taken the time to explain why she felt like she couldn't make it right. But the way she ended the conversation and basically told me to "f off" in so many words (by contacting the salon and leaving her alone) felt...
Read moreThis place TOTALLY blew me away... been going to cheaper hair cut places and had been visiting a good barbershop regularly for awhile for short-hair cuts, but my hair is longer now and I desperately needed a legit consultation to get my hair problems figured out. My stylist, Matthew, sat with me for at least 15 minutes just talking about what I could do with my hair to make it look good in the process of growing it out, and really made me feel comfortable about how he was going to modify it. Not only was the service excellent (hair wash, even a warm hand-wax treatment), but I have NEVER been happier with my long hair or how it looks since my appointment. Matthew also hooked me up with a great Aveda hair product that is working SO much better for me than what I was using before, and explained to me what product would be best for my hair type. Even my own mom (who has the same hair type as me) asked me what I was using now because she noticed how much nicer my hair looks than before. Definitely going to be a return customer! THANK YOU...
Read moreSalon St. Louis was recommended to me by a friend when I first moved here in the Fall of 2015. I've been going there ever since! I even went through a stylist transition because the one I saw moved away. They have reasonable rates that are dependent on the stylist and their experience. They are all very friendly and you get a complimentary drink with your service (sometimes wine!). A haircut also comes with a wash and head massage with essential oils. It's a very soothing experience, and the paraffin hand wax is a must during the dry, winter season! They also consistently do community drives and they are currently collecting donations for those affected by flooding. It is this entire combination that keeps me coming back time after time. I personally see Hunter for haircuts and every time I leave feeling comfortable and renewed. I don't know of a better place, and frankly, I don't even want to...
