This once-STL-classic is headed downhill fast. I'm writing this review hoping to get the attention of anyone in charge as I hate to see this happen!
This place used to be AMAZING. Fast, friendly service, sandwiches on point, locally owned and always fresh and delicious. Every time I've been in here for the past year and a half has been lackluster (if not poor) and I keep going back in hopes that it will change- to no avail.
My most noteworthy bad experiences, all within the last six months: I ordered a Chicken Breast Sandwich with extra pickles and literally received a sandwich with bread, chicken breast, and TONS of pickles (nothing else, despite the menu description touting mayo, lettuce and tomato). Another occasion I ordered a Mom's Special with no sauce (it was for lunch in a few hours and I didn't want it to get soggy) plus peppers. It came with sauce and without peppers. The most recent, I stood and waited in line while one associate made sandwiches and two others stood around and talked about their drunk boyfriends... Like, omg, I'm sure he was SUPER FITSHACED and it was hi-LA-rious but that poor associate is doing all the work while you're getting paid to stand around and gossip and a store full of customers is witnessing every second of it.
PLEASE GET THIS PLACE BACK UP TO SPEED! I dearly miss this place and the sandwiches it used to put out. I hate to go corporate but Firehouse subs down the street has been far superior to this place as of late. While I appreciate Firehouse's mission I definitely love the local history that this deli has. If it weren't for how many GREAT experiences I'd had in the past, this would've gotten a straight 1/5. I won't be back for a while, but I hope that when I do, you'll still be open and back to presenting...
Read moreThis is so hard for me, because while I loved, and have always loved Mom’s Deli, the service is consistently, inexcusably bad.
I think it’s cool to have younger people running a store, and a lot of them do a great job, but you can box up half your sandwich station two hours before close, when you haven’t even hit the dinner rush.
We get it, you want to get out of there, but you’re actually just making things worse for the customers and yourself. It’s really hard to watch two people stand there doing nothing, because you don’t have your station fully open with a line to the door.
And this is the third or fourth time I’ve been there in the last year where the staff is openly cussing and complaining about the rush, a customer or their job in front of us. It makes the experience super uncomfortable.
If I’m gonna spend this much on a sandwich, might as well do it somewhere where they don’t seem to openly hate their customers and their jobs. 🤷🏻♀️
Thinks it’s time to officially become a Le Grands super fan instead. :(
For the owners: the Sunday afternoon crew needs coaching. Badly. I never write reviews, and I am not exaggerating that they are openly hostile to customers, when there is still two hours left in the shift. Not all of them, of course, but still.
If I were you, I would want to know this. You’re a St. Louis staple, and one I’ve been proud to eat...
Read moreBeen going to Mom’s Deli for years. I always get the moms special. Other sandwiches on the menu just don’t compete with the moms. Unfortunately they recently changed the bread and I have noticed less meat on the sandwiches.
Due to the limited selection of outstanding sandwiches, inconsistent bread, and little meat on the sandwiches, I give a rating of 3.4 stars out of 5.
Edit: Moms deli quality has been on a strong decline over the past few years. Each time I order I think they take another slice of meet off my sandwich. I had TWO total pieces of meat on my last moms special with hard bread, which is significantly smaller than in the past.
Edit 2: In order to enjoy a moms deli sandwich at the quality it was previously known for, you must order “double meet”. Unfortunately this makes the moms special sandwich cost $11. Actually ridiculous. Pictures will show proof. Go to LeGrand’s and save your money and get a better sandwich! You actually get more meat on a standard LeGrand’s sandwich then a...
