Making Friends in St. Louis: Finding All Kinds of Companions

Absolutely wonderful. The whole experience. Lots of ACTUAL coffee to choose from and a whole vibe to match. . (tbh) I wasn’t prepared for all the options being from out of town and magically finding this place on a whim.. but as a “black” coffee drinker I couldn’t have been more excited. starbucks to Sump is like a budlight to an artisanal ipa. Two very different priorities and goals. . The staff was phenomenal. Warm, welcoming, kind, respectful. I’ve been to hundreds of different coffee shops traveling the US and this was by far the most kind interactions I’ve had almost anywhere. The bathroom was clean and also its own Vibe which is always a pleasant surprise. . The coffee I was recommended though was next level. she said the common favorite was the Colombian and it did not disappoint. It was roasty and smooth like a chai tea but wet like water. the aromas to match with a cute little beaker/pottery cup presentation. You can tell your drinking a real earth bean grown with love and Alchemized properly with care into a lovely bean juice. The addict in me could’ve had 5 more. . Wish the store was open longer but no doubt, absolutely fabulous. (Top 2 ever, it’s up there with the puppy coffee shop in Minneapolis).

It's clear that Sump is a professional and well renowned roaster in St. Louis. There's an obvious love from locals for Sump and it's a cornerstone of the south city community. With that said-- our cafe experience here, as new customers, was disappointing. I understand that people have bad days, some people are shy, sometimes it's too busy to chat -- that's okay. However, 90% of the cafe experience, at least for us, is getting to know the staff, hearing what they like and hearing their suggestions. Geeking out about equipment or new products. I can always order coffee online from well renowned roasters like Onyx, Dark Horse, Kuma, Airship. There's something to be said about having a local roaster you enjoy going to. Sump just wasn't it for us, at least this time around. We'll give it another try one day. But for a Friday afternoon, with as much positive attitude as we tried to bring to the table, we did not feel welcome here. We ended up falling back to another local roaster and buying our coffee for the month somewhere else instead.

While I call the sunny streets of Phoenix home, my visits to St. Louis always include a daily pilgrimage to Sump Coffee. Having explored countless local coffee shops in St Louis , I can confidently say that Sump stands head and shoulders above the rest. From the moment you step inside, you can tell that coffee here is a true passion, not just a commodity. The baristas are knowledgeable and clearly dedicated to their craft, always ready with a recommendation or a friendly chat about the latest brew. But the real star of the show is, of course, the coffee itself. Each cup I've had at Sump has been exceptional – rich, complex, and perfectly brewed. Whether I opt for a meticulously prepared pour-over or a expertly crafted espresso drink, the quality is consistently outstanding. You can taste the care and attention that goes into sourcing and roasting their beans. It's more than just the coffee, though. The atmosphere at Sump is inviting and conducive to both focused work and relaxed conversation. It's the kind of place where you feel comfortable lingering over your cup. For anyone visiting or living in St. Louis who appreciates truly exceptional coffee, Sump is an absolute must-visit. It has set the bar incredibly high for my coffee experiences, and I already look forward to...

Great Coffee, Great Service, Great Owners!

Recently went to this awesome coffee bar just off Cherokee Street. It's well maintained, stylish, and a perfect place for catching up with a friend, studying, or doing work. Plenty of space, individual and group tables, free/ample parking, free wifi and it's in a safe location.

The Coffee is amazing, might be the most unique/best in St. Louis (which is a pretty damn good reason to go). The range of coffee drinks and bean types is impressive.

The staff is incredibly sharp, well informed, and friendly. I'm just getting into the "bigger coffee" world so my knowledge is limited at best. The owners/employees took a ton of time explaining things and giving recommendations (even hooked me up with a free cup). I never felt like I was being talked-down-to or belittled. (It's always nice when people don't make you feel dumb...especially when you are)

The owners are incredible friendly and showed me around the shop. Far from just being friendly they are seriously dedicated to their business and bringing St. Louis better coffee.

I'll definitely be...
