Caribbean Soul — Restaurant in Starke

Tried this place and the food I received was not what I was expecting. Coming from someone who eats Caribbean food on the regular, I was disappointed. The cornbread was dry and crumbly, cabbage tasted old (they said it was cooked the same day but the actual cabbage tasted rancid), the plantains were soggy and gross, and the goat lacked flavor. The extra gravy was also not added which wouldn’t have made a difference. I let them know that I was disappointed and they went back and forth with me about it and made me feel like I wouldn’t ask for a refund if I were at a different restaurant such as Red Lobster (somewhere I don’t eat). When I said it wouldn’t matter where I was, if the food is not good…she hung up on me. My boyfriend also did not enjoy his food. He said the oxtail was tasteless and watery and threw the cornbread away. The only thing that he said was ok was the Mac n cheese. I went up to the restaurant and they gave me a refund with the same attitude I got over the phone. I tried explaining to the husband and she came back in the dining area with an attitude. She touched the cornbread and said “it’s moist” I said ma’am, it’s dry and crumbly you’re not eating it. She told me again I was wrong. Instead of taking constructive criticism from a customer, she berated me. Hidden Gem in the Heart of Historic Starke Florida. Small family owned and ran by Mrs Hightower. The food is Carribean with a Southern Flare. They have the Best homemade honey mustard sauce she puts on those big juicy wings! We had a variety of food from them today and those greens, oxtail, and mac n cheese, tasted so delicious. Shame on me for Not trying this restaurant sooner. Y'all get down there and get a plate, dine in or carry out. Mrs Hightower is so friendly...

Great customer service, Velicia( hope i spelled it right) is the cook. Awesome, personable and sweet, as well as Lisa our server . I ordered 2 fried pork chops double mac and cheese with white rice and the other with plantains, yams and yellow rice to go… OMG my grandson loved the chops as well as I. yams, plantains and mac & cheese slamming… will definitely be making this a regular 👅 Coming back for their weekly red...
