We had a good day in Staunton, until we didn't. We strolled Beverly Street, made purchases in some shops, and had a nice conversation with the women in the visitors center. During that conversation, we told them we wanted a light meal before going on the scenic railroad. Upon their recommendation, we went to the yelping dog. Our experience was the same as reviewer Judy Henley. The waitress seemed to have an attitude from the very beginning and it only got worse. After serving our food, she never returned to see if everything was okay, or if we needed drink refills. She not only didn't return, it was very obvious she intentionally never looked at our table when she went by to check on tables beside and behind us. The four of us were totally at a loss for the behavior of this waitress. Maybe she doesn't like elderly people.. we're late '70s to '80. We all agreed we have never experienced such behavior by a waitress / waiter. The grilled cheese sandwiches were very good but we would definitely not return, or recommend this place because of the extremely...
Read moreI have been there quite a few times. Things have usually been good. I would have given higher overall, service, and atmosphere ratings, but when I stopped in recently, I found the service rude and inattentive. I ordered a frozen sangria/rosè swirl, saying, "I heard if you ask nicely, you can get some of each." and was told I didn't ask very nicely. I thought I was pretty nice. As I was finishing it, I asked for a spoon to eat the last of it, when I finally got someone's attention. It never came. My friend went to another establishment to get a plastic spoon. It took another long time to get anyone's attention to pay the check. My 3 star ratings are only that high because of averaging in other previous good experiences there. Otherwise, based solely on my experience the other day, I'd have given a 1. I'll come back and hopefully the other day will just...
Read moreWe love coming here regularly. Great bites even if you don’t eat gluten and prefer paleo. Service is always warm and cheerful. Lighting and wood floors and deco are charming. Bathrooms clean. I don’t drink much alcohol and lately they have been carrying a delightful regional kombucha which I’m so excited about I’ve been craving it and making the trip more often to our favorite watering hole. However they keep running low or out so I hope they start stocking more! And today (for the first time) the fruit was a little expired and it got me thinking having seasonal (local?) fruit on the menu to sub into their cheese boards would be next level. I would also suggest some sound treatment as it can also easily get too loud, though we love when we can sit outside and enjoy the...
