We were in from out of state and looking for somewhere to spend an afternoon. We wandered into Yelping Dog and I accidentally bought a few pounds of cheese. The employees working with the cheese gave me so much guidance, let me sample a few, and then talked me through pairing. I ended up with: Red Dragon, Meadow Creek Grayson, Lambchopper, Belletoile Brie, Clawson Stilton, and Drunken Goat. I really couldn't give any recommendations since they are all very unique and everyone's tastes vary so much, but I 100% recommend checking it out if you're in the area. All of that cheese, some crackers, a few glasses of wine and beer came to (pre-tip) $109.52.

I've been here multiple times, but this review is based on my visit on 1/07/21. For starters, the staff here is always super friendly and on top of things, and today Sarah was our server. We ordered "The Dragon Hook" plate which includes Red Dragon English cheddar (infused with mustard & ale), Deer Creek Wisconsin aged cheddar, apples, walnuts, pretzels, sweet pickles, and on top of that, we added charcuterie. Throw in a couple of nice white wines and it was the perfect late snack after a big breakfast and spending time shopping in downtown Staunton.

What a delightful find! We dropped in for a glass of local wine and stayed for live music and yummy cheese plates. They offer a wide selection (well, as wide as Virginia wines get) of Virginia & other wines, craft beers, including daily features. Ask for a description of the cheese plates, each distinctly paired with fruit, nuts, olives, etc. We ended our meal with a locally baked dessert, listening to joyful, but not overpowering music. We’re returning for a second night!

We had a good day in Staunton, until we didn't. We strolled Beverly Street, made purchases in some shops, and had a nice conversation with the women in the visitors center. During that conversation, we told them we wanted a light meal before going on the scenic railroad. Upon their recommendation, we went to the yelping dog. Our experience was the same as reviewer Judy Henley. The waitress seemed to have an attitude from the very beginning and it only got worse. After serving our food, she never returned to see if everything was okay, or if we needed drink refills. She not only didn't return, it was very obvious she intentionally never looked at our table when she went by to check on tables beside and behind us. The four of us were totally at a loss for the behavior of this waitress. Maybe she doesn't like elderly people.. we're late '70s to '80. We all agreed we have never experienced such behavior by a waitress / waiter. The grilled cheese sandwiches were very good but we would definitely not return, or recommend this place because of the extremely...

I have been there quite a few times. Things have usually been good. I would have given higher overall, service, and atmosphere ratings, but when I stopped in recently, I found the service rude and inattentive. I ordered a frozen sangria/rosè swirl, saying, "I heard if you ask nicely, you can get some of each." and was told I didn't ask very nicely. I thought I was pretty nice. As I was finishing it, I asked for a spoon to eat the last of it, when I finally got someone's attention. It never came. My friend went to another establishment to get a plastic spoon. It took another long time to get anyone's attention to pay the check. My 3 star ratings are only that high because of averaging in other previous good experiences there. Otherwise, based solely on my experience the other day, I'd have given a 1. I'll come back and hopefully the other day will just...

We love coming here regularly. Great bites even if you don’t eat gluten and prefer paleo. Service is always warm and cheerful. Lighting and wood floors and deco are charming. Bathrooms clean. I don’t drink much alcohol and lately they have been carrying a delightful regional kombucha which I’m so excited about I’ve been craving it and making the trip more often to our favorite watering hole. However they keep running low or out so I hope they start stocking more! And today (for the first time) the fruit was a little expired and it got me thinking having seasonal (local?) fruit on the menu to sub into their cheese boards would be next level. I would also suggest some sound treatment as it can also easily get too loud, though we love when we can sit outside and enjoy the...
