What an amazing find in a beautiful, historic city. The Mill Street Grill offers up amazing traditional favorites with a southern twist! My friend and I decided to visit on a whim on a Sunday afternoon so I decided to call ahead to make sure we would be able to dine in (coming from 40 minutes away). We were able to be put on the list before they opened and seated immediately upon the doors opening!
The restaurant itself has a very interesting history you can read all about on the menu you are provided with for ordering food and beverages.
To start we decided to try the Pepper Jack Cheese Sticks which came with a sweet, berry-type sauce for dipping. My husband loved the sauce and I asked for a traditional side of Marinara for my half of the appetizer. They happily and quickly brought me the sauce and the cheese sticks were amazing. Great idea to substitute mozzarella for pepper jack for something different with a little bit of kick!
Before our main meals were brought out we were also provided with bread and their seasonal butter. We learned that the butters they give you for your bread vary and change often! The butter we were provided with this day was a pumpkin butter. I know, I know, most people think of Fall time when they consume pumpkin, but it was soooo delicious!
I decided to order a sandwich for my meal which was hard to choose from their list. I decided to go with the Packers sandwich which was roasted prime rib meat sliced, melted cheddar cheese, bacon, and a side of creamy horseradish sauce. The meat was super tender and juicy and almost melted through my sandwich! Must try! My sandwich came with fries which were tasty and crunchy. I decided to order a side of fried green tomatoes with my order as well. They weren't my favorite ever but I thought the flavor was nice, the tomatoes were lent too soggy or hard, and the sauce was delicious!
My friend decided to order her typical breakfast entree consisting of biscuits and gravy, crispy bacon, and eggs over easy! She also enjoyed his meal and didn't leave a bite to spare. I did manage to try her biscuits and gravy and I must say, they were spot on! The biscuits were soft and homemade, the gravy was creamy and not clumpy with an amazing smoked meat flavor!
We will definitely be back and this will go on the list of places to bring family and friends when they visit in the...

Read moreThis business has contacted me and made everything right so I have corrected my star rating. No need to put it all out there but this ended up being an off night with a set of circumstances that could not have been accounted for.
I am not sure what has changed here but we have been to this place twice and both experiences were phenomenal, so much so that we have recommended a ton of people to make the drive and to eat here. Tonight however, on the way back from Natural Bridge, we decided to stop in and it was terrible. Despite it being a Saturday it was not super busy so that excuse is out the window. To start off we were given dirty dishes for our bread starter, and I don't mean an errant chive on the plate, this was full on food smeared on the plate. When we noticed this we alerted our waitress and she apologized and said she would get us fresh plates, this never happened, she never even collected the dirty plates. I ordered Buffalo wings as an appetizer and received dry wings with blue cheese when the menu clearly says ranch, no big deal she swapped out the blue cheese for ranch fairly quickly. Then I asked for some actual buffalo sauce since the wings were dry and what I received was a buffalo paste, not sure what that was about. I ate most of the wings which were mediocre at best. When our main course came out my girlfriends plate had a long hair draped across her ribs, we alerted staff and they took the plate away to get a new one, when her replacement came out it was missing her side so she asked the guy to bring her side, this also never happened, we had to track down our waitress to get her side. All in all a super disappointing experience, in the end there was no effort to bridge the gap on the $100 meal, nothing comped or even offered. I still tipped the waitress 18% which is under the standard 20% but frankly she deserved maybe 5%. I wish we had just gone somewhere else, I'm not sure that...
