Banana Nut Bread: I really doubt you have ever had banana nut bread better than this.

After the passing of my grandmother (Nonnie) 13 years ago, I had lost hope that I would ever find another banana nut bread that could to compare hers....until my wife and I stumbled across Lida's Bakery while passing through Stephenville in 2021.

We saw the reviews online and stopped in for the pastries, but also purchased the smallest loaf of the banana nut bread due to me being more than a tad pessimistic. See every loaf of banana nut bread I had purchased in the preceeding 13 years was either dry, flavorless, hard, or some combination of the above. We journeyed on while enjoying the pastries, especially the scone. However, we held off on the banana nut bread, since it would need to be sliced.

When we arrived home ,169 miles away, I began to sample this prized item as my wife asked "Is it good?". I told her "No, it is great!" Memories rushed through my mind of my grandmother and my childhood as my wife joined me of her first slice. It was at this time I fully realized my folly. I had judged Lida's Bakery by the lenses of all others who could not compare and purchased a tiny loaf that would soon be gone.

Fast-forward, and it is now August of 2023 and it has been entirely too long , but I just returned home with two large loafs of this fantastic dessert. The staff was very helpful since I was running more than a little behind schedule when I arrived. Thankfully nothing has changed and it is exactly like I remembered it. The bread has a great aroma, is slightly firm with a fantastic flavor. It is moist and has just the perfect bananas/nut ratio, just like the way Nonnie made it. I will now be delivering a loaf to my Mom, Nonnies daughter for her to enjoy.

Great staff and wonderful selection of pastries as well as casseroles to go. My son loves the cookies and the pumpkin cakes. I also love the cranberry scones with the cream cheese in the middle.

I travel a fair amount for work and I know I can count on Lida's Food Basket to have a yummy "heat and eat" meal to leave my family if I run out of time to prep...
