It has been a while since I have been to NuNew York Deli, and I was very happy to see that their quality and excellent service has not changed. The restaurant was pretty busy on the Friday my companion and I attended. We were seated immediately at a requested table. Right away, a complimentary bowl of dill pickle chunks arrived at our table as an appetizer. The pickles were crisp and flavorful reminding me of the kind you got from an old country store with a big pickle barrel. The menu is large, but well organized. They also have several daily specials. I chose to have the wing ding diiner. Dinner consisted of the wing dings and choice of potato and vegetables. You also had the choice of soup, salad or coleslaw with your meal. Both my companion and I chose the clam chowder from a list of 8 (!) options. It was rich and thick with lots of clams. Best of all, it was piping hot. So often soup arrives warm at best, even in the best of places. The 8 wing dings arrived hot and perfectly cooked. My choice of potato was french fries, and when they arrived on the plate I was delighted to see they were the crinkle cut fries which just happen to be my favorite cut! The portion was generous, crisp, and again, piping hot, as fries should be. There was also a side of roasted vegetables, an assortment of carrots, yellow summer squash, and pencil thin asparagus. The assortment was tasty, but truth be told, felt out of place with the wings and fries. A better choice of accompaniment would have been a corn on the cob or cole slaw. It also would have been better had it been served on the side in a seperate bowl or dish. It did make the plate a bit crowded. My companion chose the fettuccini alfredo with shrimp. It arrived very hot and it came with 2 wedges of thick garlic bread. There was a more than satisfying portion of well cooked al dente fettuccine meaning it was obvious there would be leftovers. The shrimp was the perfect size, small (probably 26-32 size) and there was at least a dozen +. The shrimp were large enough to cut in half so that you got shrimp with every bite, but not so large that they were awkward to handle. As my companion said, she would rather have the smaller shrimp where she could enjoy them throughout the meal rather than a plate of fettuccine with 3 big shrimp on top like you get at more fancy, expensive places. The sauce on the pasta was cheesy and delicious, however it was oversauced. There was more than plenty of sauce to coat the shrimp and pasta and to dip the garlic bread into. There was probably enough sauce leftover to take home and coat another serving of fettuccine. But if that is the worst thing I could say, then that really isn't much of a complaint at all. My companion had coffee with her meal, hot, fresh and servers kept it refilled frequently. I opted for just water that day. They also have a nice offering of desserts which we did not try because we were full. We both took home leftovers. Price was very reasonable, our bill coming to the 25-30 dollar range for both of us. There is more we are anxious to explore on the menu and we will be back. Also it should be mentioned that they offer not only carry out and grub hub delivery, they also have a drive up window for carryout for convenience. I highly recommend Nu...
Read moreI used to really love this place, and I know the soups are homemade and wonderful. However, I recommended this restaurant this weekend to my brother and sister-in-law, who were in town for a funeral. My brother ordered the brisket sandwich, which came on a small plate alone with one very sad, slim piece of swiss cheese and the thin cuts of meat were tightly wound around itself. It looked like an old gray blanket cut into with the bread. There was absolutely no care taken in slapping this sandwich onto the plate. It was the most unappetizing thing I'd ever seen. One bite told him how bland it was. He made a face and asked to send it back. It was ignored and still on the bill when we received the check. He refused to complain or order anything else. I was extremely embarrassed as this is a place that we generally come to. The b l t my sister in law ordered was not much better, and the very picky eater we had with us said he enjoyed it. If I ever go back, I will stick with the hand dipped vegetable appetizer, and that's about it. Extremely disappointing...
Read moreMe and my fiancé went here one day for breakfast and it was good so I decided to stop in on Monday night for dinner and was excited to try the stuffed cabbage. I was disappointed with the completely flavorless stuffed cabbage but said nothing and decided never to order it again moving forward. Then on Tuesday night I stopped in and decided to try the corned beef egg rolls, chili cheese fries and a cup of French onion soup. The corned beef egg rolls were much smaller (half the size) of other places. But they were good. The soup was extremely salty so it’s a no for me. And the chili cheese fries were crinkle cut fries so not what I expected either. I wasn’t impressed with multiple dinner options so I’ve decided that if I go back it will only be for breakfast. The waitresses were good so this isn’t about them. But this place isn’t something I’d ever recommend to others and I’d only go back because it’s close to home and it would have to be a day I didn’t feel like doing dishes and didn’t care...
