Authentic Generic.
For people who are complaining about their egg rolls and hot and sour soup, this restaurant is known for their authentic Sichuan cuisine. So while they do have the generic shrimp fried rice, beef and broccoli, egg foo young, etc... their Sichuan food is what you should be eating here. After all, why come to a Sichuan restaurant, then order the most unauthentic dishes like sweet and sour chicken, almond chicken, general tso's chicken, pork chop suey, shrimp with lobster sauce, and so on? How can you possibly taste some REALLY delicious (and new!) Chinese food here when you're sticking to the same-old? You can eat your unauthentic cashew chicken with egg roll, chicken fried rice and egg drop soup practically anywhere! Grab this opportunity to eat some authentic Sichuan food! Then brag about it to your friends when you describe what the texture of wood ear is! (Don't know what it is? Google it!)
All I'm saying is if you really want to be wowed, try some AUTHENTIC dishes that make this place special, like squirrel shaped fish with sweet and sour sauce, the classic mapo tofu, or even the bubbling pork intestine & pig's blood curd in a wok if you're feeling brave! If you want to ease into the spicy, oily word that is Sichuan cuisine, try something a little easier on the stomach like chicken with spicy sauce (口水鸡) or spicy chicken (you be the judge if you can handle this spiciness). If you're new to Chinese food in general, try something that isn't spicy like tofu and pork with vegetables in a pot (so yummy). Ask the waitress/waiter for some hot oil to test the waters before diving in. And if you're just really scared, go for the least scariest thing on the menu that isn't what you're used to eating at every other Chinese place. Variety is the spice of life, after all!
My point is: If you're going to eat at a Sichuan restaurant... you should eat Sichuan food! If you're going to any establishment that you know serves authentic Whatever food - order something authentic and savor it!
Long story short: Don't shy away from the foreign sounding names of dishes like "Quick-Fried Pig Kidney." Work your way up to it if you feel like that's a little too exotic for you. But please don't go to an authentic restaurant with such a rich variety of food and tell the waitress/waiter, "Can I get the sesame chicken with two egg rolls?"
So please, leave the comfort of your wonton soup and familiar chicken lo mein, and open yourself up to the savory spiciness that is...
Read moreMy star rating is hard to decide on..because the food rating would be a 3 1/2. There cleanliness is one star. I once dined in and one of the restrooms was out of order and the one that was useable, was absolutely disgusting! The table and window we sat by.. filthy. Wait staff pokey. There food was decent tho. I vowed to never dine in again. After I saw what I saw. However, if I am ever craving this type of food..I will order take out. The last few times they have forgotten to put a meal in my take out bag ..by the time it got home and we looked into the bags it was to late to drive back and tell them we had a missing meal. Or the many times we buy there egg rolls and they forget to pack the sauce that goes with them. Or the time we placed a double order of wontons..they just packed a single order. Lately there food isn't as good as we remember it being. Sucks because they were our only favorite place to go to.
Decided to give this place a try after a very long hiatus. Ordered take out.
I'd like to start with trying to call this place my order took several phone calls. The line would just ring and ring and ring. Then finally someone answered and hung up. Finally we get thru and there's so much going on in the background it's hard to hear them. I try telling the person what I would like to order and they ask me for what the number was on the dish. So keep that in mind when calling ..have the dish number readily available.
Also, they gave us a dish we didn't order. Some kind of duck dish. It was awful and it was cold. It was aesthetically visually pleasing tho. I guess you have to open all containers before leaving to make sure you get exactly what you ordered. We also ordered a corn soup ..not exactly what we'd expected it's a puree of chicken and pieces of corn. Very unappetizing to look at.
Side note .. they don't even ask for your name when you order. Just a quick timeframe and a thank you and they...
Read moreTrizest is a... one of the kind eating experience in Southeast Michigan. I can't speak to the restaurant's a-la-carte food, as I've only ever been for the buffet, but over the course of 6 months I probably visited the buffet over 10 times, so I can definitely speak to that!
The restaurant is located in a rather unassuming location in a strip mall, and if you didn't know to look for it, it definitely wouldn't be somewhere you think you'd find yourself. Once inside, there's a good amount of seating, in tables along the front windows, booths along the side, and large circle tables in the center of the restaurant, so they can handle a large group without a hassle.
Now onto the buffet! If you're looking to get a TON of chinese food at a reasonable price, the Trizest buffet will become your best friend. With my many visits to the restaurant, I definitely found a few key dishes that became my favorites, but there's a good amount of selection, so generally experiment among it and find yours! They normally refill the dishes quickly as they do run out with the demand from the lunch rush, but you don't have to worry about not being able to get your favorite dish when you're at Trizest. Definitely come prepared to eat a lot, the quality of the food is not the highest, but the taste/ amount that you can get makes it all worth it. There were definitely times when I stopped by that I would get 3 plates full of food, so you get your money's worth! I believe Trizest also stopped serving the buffet during Friday lunch, so make sure to go on another weekday to take advantage of it.
Keto/ Low Carb-ers: As with many chinese restaurants, you probably won't find too much of a selection at Trizest. They definitely do have dishes that you can partake in (beef dishes, and some vegetable dishes), but you might not get your money's worth as the rice and noodles can be central to having a full...
