So, I'm one of those annoying people that has Celiacs. I'm also allergic to wheat, which means that a thousand years ago I'm basically toast. Boo hoo / small violin playing / I'm in the waah-m-bulance.
The placed looked good, at least insofar as it had that "All Bar One" feel for those familiar with the UK experience. (I come from the UK so it's a point a reference, fair enough? It's kind of mid-range upper-poseur kind of place.)
Scratch that, though. This was my first time at the joint and I went for a falafel wrap (double warnings there for Celiac peeps). I worried. I double checked.
The meal came out and could barely stop myself from smelling it over and over. They made falafel smell like grilled food--somehow. The real thing that was noteworthy, however, was the wrap. It was GF and it was plastic, didn't split apart, and was oh-so-awesome. For the first time in a looong time I had to ask whether this was in-house or whether they bought in (because, hell, I wanted that wrap), and they reported that it was prepared in-house.
Hell yes! This was the single best wrap ever as a GF person. I want to go there and kidnap someone until they produce the wrap on demand for me. I would throw money at them to sell their wraps as a side business if they were all like the ones that that I had today.
Outside of this, Mission's GF wrap is the best that I've ever tasted in terms of flavour and plasticity. Cafesano has them beat. Oh for the love of all that is holy they need to share it.
For self-aggrandizing reference, I think that I could do everything else they did, but I could not do this wrap. Please, please, sell them to...
Read moreIt is very disappointing when a place with such great food and a nice looking restaurant can ruin your experience just from the staff alone. I entered this place for the first time after years of only ordering from them through Uber. There were a couple of young male workers at the counter doing absolutely nothing to assist the customers. As I waited to be helped, I noticed an Uber driver enter to pick up a customers food and no one had any clue that there should have been fries with this uber order. So now the driver had the pizzas already but had to wait for the fries to be cooked. As that is happening, a woman had to get up from her table to the counter asking where her food is and it clearly has been sitting there for a bit as no one acknowledges it. She was clearly upset and the male staffer just brings her over her food and he laughs and continues to have a smile on his face, but not a friendly type one, more like a childish one. As I continue to wait, he is preparing utensils for the tables, he drops the utensil on the floor, picks it up and continues to wrap it in a napkin to give to the next customers that may come in. The two male staffers stand around giggling, messing around and don't seem to have a clue what needs to be done. I chose to walk out without ordering as just observing them and they way they handled everything made me no longer interested in doing business in...
Read moreI'd have called ahead for my order, but the website was slow to respond. I walk in and there is a separate line for dine in and take out. It was 12:40 on a Friday, the place is maybe 1/3 - 1/2 full. As I wait for someone to attend the take out line, the cashier at the dine in line takes someone's order. When he's done, he stands there doing nothing as I wait for someone to come to the other register. 30 seconds go by, and someone else comes in, and he takes their order, and then waits until someone new comes in the door. This repeats 3 more times. Another worker eventually comes over, asks me if I'm picking up, and after I tell her I need to order first, she tells me to hold on. She starts bagging up other orders, and another 2 minutes goes by before she takes my order. I order a chicken shawarma wrap, fries, and a drink. After I pay, she tells me it will be 15 minutes. It's not a fast food place, but 15 minutes for a sandwich and fries when the place isn't really full at lunch time??
15 minutes later, I get my food and head to the car. Before leaving, I open up the container to get to the fries and they are room temperature!! It's been less than 2 minutes since she gave me the container. I will say the shawarma was really really good (and still warm when I got home). But it wasn't worth the...
