I was surprised to find out that this place has been here for 9 months already. Very brave of the owners to start up during everything going on. We haven't done much eating out at all in the past year and are just starting to again so this was our first time getting food here, we were extremely satisfied! We did what we usually do the first time we go somewhere, ordered a little of a few things for both of us to share so we could get an overall feel for everything. The only thing we weren't big on was the salsa that came with the chips and queso. It had no heat at all and not much overall flavor, that may have just been an off batch though and we will definitely give it another try. The queso was good, as were the chips. They were light and crispy, not the thick ones that get hard to eat when they go cold. All of that was complementary, even with a to-go order, I really was surprised by that. The tacos were really good, we ordered one carne asada and one al pastor, I personally preferred the asada for the tacos, and where the chip salsa seemed like something was missing the red and green that came with the tacos was excellent! I will be ordering extra of both next time, it would be good on everything. I spread it around as far as I could this time lol. They also came with the usual lime wedge and sliced radish I was used to from the taco trucks and stuff in Tulsa. We got a chicken torta and it was also really good, my daughter absolutely loved it! The chicken was perfectly cooked and not dry, had good flavor. We also got 2 gorditas, one carne asada and one al pastor. They were absolutely, hands down, my personal favorite of everything we tried today and were really really good! With the al pastor being my favorite for the gorditas. They were bigger than I was expecting and very filling. We ordered a side of rice and a side of beans, there was more than enough of each for both of us. The beans were surprisingly at our preferred consistency, and how I usually fix them at home, as we like to pour them over the rice. The rice was traditional, simple but good. To wash it all down we got a couple of horchata's, we haven't had that in a while and it was really good, good enough to make me ready to attempt making it myself this summer. I used to buy the liquid concentrate when we lived in tulsa but I've never seen it here. I have been meaning to try making it at home for a while and I think this year is the year. I usually take pics to upload with my reviews when things are good, and I will try to next time. Unfortunately we completely forgot to bother by the time we got home, everything just smelled so good, and tasted so good.... It took us both 2 meals to eat everything, and we enjoyed every bite! We will most definitely be back, and look forward to trying a little of absolutely everything on the menu at least once. Then settle in with our favorites after.
I was a little skeptical about coming here due to the petty comment posted claiming the food isn't authentic, but wanted to try it for myself and make my own decision. Trying to come with an open mind. I'm not sure where the person that said it wasn't authentic is from but it must be another part of Mexico or something because everything we tried was all stuff my ex sister in law taught me to make over the years and it was very similar in how it was prepared, a few small changes here or there but nothing substantial. My ex husband and his family are all from Queretaro, Mexico. All I will say is different parts of any country make different versions of food. It's as diverse there as things like BBQ and pizza are here from coast to coast. But what we had was most definitely authentic, the only possible exception would be the queso, but hey, its QUESO!! No one questions the authenticity of something as wonderful as queso lol. That doesn't mean everything on their menu is authentic, I haven't tried everything so I can't make the claim that it is or isn't. I can only say that about...
Read moreCAUTION: This review is an unnecessarily long, meandering narrative, littered with valid observations, intermingled with, innuendos, accusations, and ambiguities, held together with a framework of poor grammar, unconventional sentence structure and incorrectly used punctuation. Properly described, it simply an inessential opinion. Tacos Los Primos is a 4-star typical Oklahoman Style Mexican restaurant ……that is all you need to know. Save your time …Scroll on to something else. Or go get a beer from the refrigerator and here we go….. Oklahoma is a fly over/drive through state, with only Oklahoman! Mexican food! Sorry, that is a fact and that is just the way it is. Ok well. There are the large chain restaurants scattered in the large cities, for folks that don’t like real Oklahoman Mexican food Some outa staters have given this little restaurant, Tacos Los Primos, what I think, are unfair and harsh reviews. They say the food tastes like “Californian” Mexican food. I strongly disagree! And here is why… First of all, and most importantly, it’s not like I don’t have experience eating Mexican food. I have eaten at one other Mexican restaurant, many years ago. I think it was called “Casa Bonita.” Oh, and one time I got a taco at “Jack in the Box!” But, have to say that I think the Mexican food at Tocos Los Primos, tastes like Delicious! Authentic! Oklahoman! Mexican food!! There is more than just the menu and the “yellow cheese vs white cheese” argument that make this a legitimate Oklahoman Mexican restaurant. Let’s start with the restaurants structure itself. A repurposed failed Pizza Hut building, worn from time, with bathroom doors branded from the greasy black hand prints of all the hard-working individuals that come here for lunch, to get a good meal at a fair price. The air conditioner may or may not be working. Other characteristics of a good Oklahoman Mexican restaurant. Food, drink, etc. Mexican bottled drinks are on display in an old store display cooler from the 80’s. You wonder who else has eaten from your chip bowl today? Is the salsa recycled? I hope they take credit cards! But, back to the menu. Their menu is universal. What do I mean? Take one with you, put it in the glove box and at the next Oklahoman Mexican restaurant you dine at, take it in and use it. Other than the prices, I guarantee it will work. More proof Tacos Los Primos’ is a straight up Oklahoman Mexican Restaurant. All this banter aside. This is a good Oklahoman Mexican Food restaurant. The service is fast and friendly. You feel welcomed. Seat yourself. Chips, good salsa and queso arrive promptly. Very good hotter salsa is available. The restaurant is staffed and conditioned to meet your needs if you are on a limited lunch hour. The air conditioner is working, the seating is comfortable and the chips and salsa are pristine. They have a great lunch menu. And they take credit cards. Food wise. My wife had the taco salad. Good to average, but the beef could have used a little more seasoning, typical of an Oklahoman Mexican restaurant. I went with #14 Pollo Jalisco. Two this grilled chicken breasts, queso and a mound of chorizo, sides of refried beans, rice and a bonus of charro beans. I think the refried beans maybe were a mistake in the kitchen. Two servings of beans? But the refried were better than the charro beans. The Chorizo was the good,...
Read moreI went right around 12:15 lunch time. The place overall was clean and sanitized. However the salsa bar was in need of some attention. Several of the salsa's was very low, and the salsa bar itself was pretty messy. After looking at it I decided against using the salsa bar.
As for the food...Let's start with the chips and salsa. 1st thing is the charge of nearly $4 for chips and salsa when most mexican restaurants provide chips and salsa as a starter appetizer. The chips are not made in house like many mexican restaurants do, definitely from a bag. The salsa was good, however it taste no different than the blender recipe you find online. The cheese sauce tasted like it was poured from a can of that Gourmet Nacho Cheese sauce you find in any grocery store.
Now for the tacos. I got 3 different street tacos. Barrbocca, Carne Asata, and Marinaded Pork. The tacos are the best iv ever tasted anywhere!! They are very well marinaded and full of flavor. Again...the best street tacos iv ever eaten. I also got a side of rice, the rice was great, same taste as most traditional style rice.
Keep in mind..this is not a "meal" type of mexican restaurant. They're focus is on Tacos and Burritos. And the price of each taco and burrito is just under $3 a piece. And the portions are not eye popping by any means. Pretty small..but then again, street tacos are usually a smaller taco. But it adds up quick. You piece together your meal one taco or burrito at a time to make your meal. And it's only mainly entree, no sides such as beans or rice are on the menu. I asked for a side of rice and they said they could if asked for.
So for 3 Street tacos, a side of rice, chips and salsa with the nacho cheese sauce, and a standard size pop, it was $18. That's for one person. So it will put a whole in your pocket for a family of 3 or 4. At that price, you could just as easily get a nice steak grilled the way you ordered it to be from a steakhouse with all the sides.
On the menu was some very tasty sounding nachos with marinaded meat at 7.99 and I believe 8.99 for another. Which maybe the way to go depending on the size of the plate to stay at a cheaper cost for a family.
I will go back for sure, will probably try the nachos. Again, alittle pricey considering the other mexican restaurants also have a lunch menu at a...
