Update: Friday, November 1, 2024 PM I was not real happy with El Señor frogs tonight. First off, they recently raised their prices‼️😬 Two item combination plate for $18! Their sodas are over $4 with a limit of one refill‼️ No salt on the table. You have to request it and if you’re lucky they’ll give you four little packets. Where are the salt shakers?? I don’t know what’s up with the cook but evidently they don’t do special request. I like my chicken put in the taco after they deep fry the shell. I do not want my chicken deep-fried in the shell. It usually dries out the chicken and makes it hard! And I was told the cook most likely would not accommodate that. I asked for my items to only have the brown gravy. They came with both gravies …the red and brown! Overall the food was OK. I’m not in any rush to return. —————————- Update: Tuesday, May 7, 2024 PM In my last review I said I would not be back but after reading the recent reviews and the fact that it’s close to my house, I decided to give them another chance. I’m glad I did! My dinner was excellent. I had a chili relleno and chicken enchilada with rice. They were both top-notch. The chili relleno actually had quite a bit of jack cheese. They offer complementary chips and salsa. The chips are OK but the salsa was way too watery. It wouldn’t not even stick on the chips. It was a mess to eat. I was there for a late dinner so for a while I was the only person dining although they were doing quite a brisk take out business. Excellent service. Friendly staff! One downside is that they did not have the light, gringo gravy that we like. We like to order gravy and cheese and I’m not sure how that would work out with the gravy that they offer. But I look forward to coming back and having another good meal here!! —————————— Fool be once and I won’t be back… I returned tonight because I had a really good chicken taco last week. I wanted to repeat the experience. Tonight was not good. I’m not sure I will go back. I ordered the two chicken taco dinner. Nice presentation as you can see in the photo. But the chicken was dry and tough almost like jerky! It should’ve been thrown out instead of served. I was very disappointed. The restaurant is cold inside. Wear warm clothing! Two servers were quite busy. They do a brisk takeout/delivery business. My quest continues for the ultimate crispy...
Read moreThe chips were the first thing to hit my table....warm to the touch, and glistening with a thin coat of cooking oil. I took one look at them and said to myself, "This is gonna be good". It was Friday, somewhat after the lunch rush. The place was still half full, and bountiful plates of food could be seen anywhere I looked. The tacos I ordered were in crispy shells, filled generously with chunks of (what I think was) deep fried beef. That with the sides would have been enough... but I ordered a tamale on the side. I live in San Francisco, where the size of your average tamale at a sit-down restaurant tamale is on par with that razor-era flip-phone (for those of you old enough to remember those things). Here, it was almost as big as a three D-cell flashlight...nearly a meal in itself, and generously smotherd in that brown sauce that tamales are usually served with. The Salsa was good, but could use just a bit more kick. The whole thing stuffed me to the gills, and the tab was less than half of what I'd expect to pay for a similar meal where I live, in San Francisco. But in reality, Mexican food like this does not exist in San Francisco. I said this to my waitress when she asked me how I was doing. The lunch shift wound down, and she we talked about Stockton....it's ills and it's blessings, and where we saw it headed. Overall? Great quality, copious portions, friendly staff, and and check that was delightfully affordable. This is now my go-to place when I'm visiting Stockton, and jonesing...
Read moreFirst time dining at El Señor Frogs. We were drawn in by the 4.5-star rating and the mention of generous portions in other reviews. Service started off well—they greeted us quickly and were attentive. When we asked for recommendations, they said everything was good and suggested the super burrito if I was really hungry.
The burrito ended up being mostly beans and rice, with the meat dry and lacking flavor. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with fries, but the sandwich fell apart easily and didn’t have much chicken, and the fries tasted like they came from a frozen bag.
We did enjoy the complimentary chips and salsa, and the staff had a playful sense of humor when we asked for refills. However, when the check came, we were surprised to see charges for lemons and for the chips and salsa we thought were free. The total came to about $50, which felt overpriced for the portions and quality.
Overall, the service had some fun moments, but the food and value didn’t live up to the strong rating or the price point.
Don’t plan...
