I visited Sheila B's for the first time around 12:15 PM. while looking for a lunch spot. The establishment features a full bar, and upon entering, I noted that only one booth was occupied. I initially sat at the bar where my server, Tay, provided a menu.
After reviewing the options, I inquired about grits i saw on the menu but was informed they are only available on weekends. I then decided on the pancake meal, requesting scrambled eggs cooked soft with bacon. I also asked for coffee with cream and sugar. Tay informed me that half-and-half was unavailable, offering heavy whipping cream and a single Coffee-Mate creamer packet instead. She also mentioned that the restaurant would be closing for renovations the following week. After receiving the coffee, which I found subpar, and subsequently the cream and sugar, I moved to a more comfortable booth.
My food arrived approximately 30 minutes later, which felt a bit long given the lack of other diners. Unfortunately, the meal was a significant disappointment. The scrambled eggs were overcooked, dark, and appeared to have been prepared in bacon grease or a well-used skillet rather than being soft as requested. The potatoes seemed to be from a frozen Oreda bag, and the pancakes were dense and undercooked, far from fluffy. The bacon was excessively crispy, resembling items cooked in a deep fryer.
During my meal, I had to approach the bar to request assistance with syrup, which was presented in an olive oil dispenser, and also requested ketchup, which came in those annoying fast food packets Tay eventually brought these to my table after a noticeable wait. While I was attempting to manage my meal, a party of five arrived for takeout but then opted to dine in, further adding to the waiting time as I later sought to pay my bill.
Ultimately, my meal was very disappointing. The overall quality of the food, coupled with the slow service for condiments and a peculiar coffee experience, left much to be desired. I paid around $20 and left the restaurant, hoping for improvements. I plan to return after their announced renovations to see if the dining experience, particularly the food preparation and service...
Read moreTERRIBLE! Our experience was just plain TERRIBLE. I along with my husband, mother, and her man went to have some brunch after church. My husband and I have gone here 2 other times. The service was a little bit concerning both times but nothing outrageous. This time, it was plain ridiculous and unexceptable for a food establishment. We waited almost 15 minutes before anyone came to our table to acknowledge us, take our order, and bring us some water, which by the way taste like faucet water. The only sides were fries or a salad. All the other sides are only available every 1st and 3rd Sunday. Breakfast wasn't available even though it was only a little after 12 It's advertised as a brunch and soul food restaurant. Even though all this took place, we still ordered our food and drinks. As we're sitting and waiting for our food, we notice the hotsauce look old and has dried hotsauce on the bottle. Then we notice the salt and pepper shakes barely have anything in them. 15 minutes pass, no one has come to the table to check on us. Finally a young lady pass by and my husband ask if he could have a refill of his ice tea. Her reply was "I'll let your waitress know". Needless to say another 34 minutes had passed and we were still waiting for our food and someone to came to our table for that refill. We made the decision to leave. We left money for our drinks and went to get Mexican food in Manteca where they have wonderful customer service and food. Oh by the way I forgot to mention, we witnessed 2 other groups of 4 people get up and leave, plus a table of 2 people before we too made that decision. Sad part is 2 of those groups were there and ordered before us. I really hate that we had to resort to doing that, but that was just plain unexceptable. We tried to stick it out and just never go again. I hate that this was my mom and her boyfriends experience, especially since it was my...
Read moreKinda pricey $35-$45 for the Sunday specials. Both times that I've gone here, they ran out of food. Especially the greens, yams, oxtails, and turkey wings. They offer you double mac and cheese for your two sides. The fried chicken wings are awesome! Overall, the food is pretty good, but you wait at least 45 minutes for your food to come out. The reason is because they fry your chicken wings or fish per order. The staff here is really nice and will have a pleasant conversation with you. The cook came out to the dining room and appeared to be run down and dirty looking. It's really an old fashioned mom and pops soul food restaurant. They have a whole other menu, which offers sandwiches, salads and breakfast, but they won't let you order any of those items until their Sunday specials are completely gone. That was somewhat irritating, being that day ran out of side dishes and made you get double mac and cheese. My advice would be go early so that you don't have the upsetting experience of them running out of food. They have a boombox on the floor in the dining room playing music. Lol, I thought that was different. Lol! Nothing fancy at all, some of the staff had on pajama pants and hair scarves. I don't know how to rate this restaurant, mostly because I'm...
