Recently moved to the area and was looking for a great Chinese food experience. Unfortunately, this was not it. The building is nice and newly renovated but frankly I should have known something was amiss when a Caucasian woman took my order and there were African Americans cooking in the back. Not a good sign when looking for somewhat authentic Chinese cuisine. Still, I placed my order and kept my hopes up. But they were shot down the moment I opened up my box of rice to realize that it was nothing more than white rice with some soy sauce thrown on top and reheated. The rice was dry and bland without an egg or vegetable in sight. The sweet and sour chicken I ordered was dry and parts were overly crunchy with breading. Some pieces I had to spit out due to the gristle I found in the middle. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the General Tso's my brother ordered was ok. But this may just be because it was drenched in a sweet sauce. However, it was supposed to be spicy. I dont like spicy food and consider myself to have a gentle palate. But even to me, this was not even remotely spicy. I imagine someone who loves spice in their food would be extremely disappointed by this. All in all, it was a poor experience and I...
Read moreIt was my mother's birthday and she wanted to eat from chou lee's restaurant. Usually the food is on point for taste, flavor, and overall appearance. Yesterday I ordered food for over $100 worth and what we got was on a scale from 1-10 I would say a 3. I called the restaurant to report that I was unsatisfied with the food and I was told to bring back the remainder of what was not eaten( they thought I did not have it). I had all food together as bought. The front manager(white man)called out to the back of the house manager and said that person is here with the food. She just came to the front and took the bag from me with no response or apology. She took the bag to the boss lady and no one said nothing to me just standing their. I eventually took a sit until 15 minutes later after pretending to give me a new batch of food, the cashier said mam your food is ready. The boss lady was sitting in the front, the front of the house manager was next to her, still no one said another word to me. I am disappointed in the restaurant, even the so called fresh food was still no more than a 5 on a 10 scale. I will spend my money elsewhere. 99 percent of their customers are black people but they show us no respect for carrying...
Read moreThe previous ratings on this place were accurate but are no longer accurate in my opinion. it appears that a new ownership group is managing this place now. its changed from Entree Style dining to greasy spoon dining with stereotypical bad Chinese food. I had been eating there since 2008 under the old ownership group. Took a Co-Worker who was from California and she indicated this is the same type of Chinese Cuisine she was getting in LA. It was that good. I had not eaten there since 2021 since I moved out of the area. I was shocked that the food quality had gone down so drastically. Then it was confirmed to me-this place is under new management. Its just take out now and bad takeout as that. the pervious ownership group made it a destination place for dining say on a Friday night with your family. My advice to the new management group? this restaurant in Dekalb county had an excellent reputation for great food and being a place you can take your family out to eat a great meal on a weekend. PLEASE RESTORE THE DINING EXPERIENCE TO WHAT I JUST STATED. Chou Lee's was an asset to our community but it seems that you are just trying to turn it into just regular old...
