Racist staff! Hispanics beware of some of the staff and spend your money elsewhere -- Lengthy post with entire interaction.
I've been in Stowe Mountain for about 4 days and everyone in Stowe Vermont has been extremely pleasant and nice. I, a dark skinned hispanic, walk in with my family and the first thing the cashier says is "just to let you know, we're out of hot chocolate. You can walk to Alpine Hall." So my wife stayed with my two kids and ordered her coffee while I walked to Alpine Hall to buy the hot chocolate.
Much to my surprise when I return, a white family that entered this establishment after my wife sat down received their hot chocolates as I joined my wife. So I kindly asked the family next to me if they were hot chocolate and they said in deed they were.
I went back to the register and asked the staff if they ran out of hot chocolate and a different staff member said "we ran out of some of the milk options" to which I replied "your coworker told me you ran out of hot chocolate".
In comes the first cashier that first told me they ran out of hot chocolate and stated, "yes we ran out of hot chocolate, you can go to Alpine Hall", to which I replied "I did go to Alpine Hall and bought my kids' hot chocolate, but it's interesting that you sold the other family hot chocolate after I left". And then she replied, "well yes, we can serve children size".
So I reminded her I also had children for which I was trying to buy the hot chocolate for. At that point I fully understood she purposefully chose not to serve me the hot chocolate but happily served the white family the hot chocolate they ordered.
I have a couple of more days left on Stowe Mountain, and will definitely not spend another dime in this...
Read moreThe Pantry & Beanery won't give you a cup of drinking water with your order. I have asked for this on two occasions. The responses: "We don't give out water because we sell bottled water," and "It takes too much time for our barristas to hand out water."
I don't want to buy a two- or four-cup bottle of water. I am not going to drink that much. And I'm not going to stuff a bottle of water into my jacket to ski with for the day.
Free drinking water is available in every other restaurant at Spruce Peak and Stowe Mountain Resort (all these restaurants also sell bottled water). There are water fountains, or pitchers and urns, or staff members will give you water on request. Why is water so special at the Pantry & Beanery?
Hyatt (the operator of the Pantry & Beanery and Spruce Peak) proclaims that they are reducing single use plastics by offering hydration stations to guests. Talk is cheap, 'cause that's not happening at the...
Read moreGet the Cranberry Refresher with the Red Bull, it was so delightful and the reason for my overall 5 stars. I left the shop and people literally stopped me to ask where I got it, it no only looks good but tastes good too. The shop is a little pricey, during my week long trip the Chai Lattes purchased here were the most costly, but they were very good. They offer different milk options such as oat and almond. I didn't have to wait long for any of my orders. Although fast, the one Cashier who waited on me twice was very snooty, so only four stars for service. It's not really set up to encourage people to sit and linger - hence the lower stars...
