We visited on our way back from Fort Valley for dinner. The ratings online made this seem appealing. There were prior reviews that the bottoms of the tables were falling apart. The one we sat at didn't have this issue, and the interior generally seemed newer.
Regarding setting, there are no booths, which isn't a problem, but if you want one, you won't find it. There is outdoor seating and a fountain, and it looked pleasant enough, but we didn't sit outside.
Our waitress was curt in her responses. For example, when asked if we could get some straws, the response was, " it's in with the utensils," and was said as she was walking away from us.
We ordered garlic knots as an appetizer and ordered 3 entrees (spinach manicotti, chicken Parmigiano (both of the former coming with salads), and kids tortellini with Alfredo sauce) when the waitress came back with our drinks.
When we were there, the restaurant was mostly empty, with a few tables (approximately 4) already seating and having food delivered in various states (appetizers, entrees, etc. ). They were certainly not busy by any stretch.
Our food came out in the following order: salads, followed about 3 minutes later with the appetizer, which was followed with our entrees about 2-3 minutes after that. When this happens, it is usually a failure of the waitress putting in all of the food at the same time or in the wrong order. Sometimes, the cooks will catch this, but it is really incident specific.
Anyways, our salads came out on warm plates, which is unappetizing, and caused the lettuce to wilt on the bottom. The salads were also brought without dressing, which was brought about a minute later in squeeze bottles. One was cold, and the other was room temperature. I'm hoping this means they just filled it, but it was not appealing. The salad itself was okay. It appeared to be a mixed bag you'd get from the grocery store and had a single cucumber and slice of tomato with a fairly large portion of sliced olives on top. It was okay.
The garlic knots were pretty good, and the sauce was better than average. I don't think it was homemade, but it was definitely not the bottom of the barrel tomato sauce.
The entrees were hit or miss. My chicken Parmigiano was deep-fried pre-made cutlets but had good seasoning on them and had the same sauce served with the garlic knots. The noodles could have been drained a bit more, but they did at least mix the noodles with the sauce before plating. I'd rate this as slightly above average chicken Parmigiano. It's not homemade, but it wasn't bad, and it came with 3 fairly good-sized cutlets. You could definitely get 2 possibly 3 meals off it or share it with someone else.
The spinach manicotti was nothing to write home about and wasn't that great. Again, I don't think they make this from scratch, and I wouldn't recommend it. It was a good portion size, though.
The kids' tortellini was okay. Most pre-made tortellini are basically on the same level. The Alfredo wasn't made from scratch , but it wasn't terrible. I believe that they added garlic to it, which was a nice pick me up as most pre-made alfredo sauce is pretty bland.
We ordered the chocolate cake for dessert, and it came with orange slices, strawberries, and chocolate cake with drizzled chocolate sauce on it. It was okay. Our son liked it.
Overall, I'd rate the food slightly less than average. They execute some things well and some things poorly. I would have given a higher score for cold salad, so it was crisp and cold dressing. Im sure some of the other food is average for Italian restaurants.
Where they struggled was service, which was well below average. All the food basically came out together, which means you can't sit, talk, and enjoy your meal, and it is the fastest way to ruin a meal. The server acted like she didn't want to be there or wanted to be bothered too much. She did keep the drinks full, which is about the only positive thing I could note of the experience.
The atmosphere is nice and the music wasn't too loud.
We don't plan...
Read moreThis might be a little long but it's an experience I really want to share on how great this place is. If I ever write a review on a restaurant, I typically only care about the food but I really want to talk about how the staff treated me. I went there on 6/29 (just in case the managers get this message)
I'll start off with the food. I ordered the SMALL steak Stromboli for $9 and some change, and what I got was something as big as a six month old baby. It was insane. Although the quantity was just huge, the quality was even better. The steak was shredded evenly which cooked it perfectly. It wasn't dried out like other places and it was just a fantastic dish. It was clear that they took time in preparation, which made the dish feel fresh.
But now I want to state why Im even writing this review, the customer service. When I arrived I was feeling a little sick and I wasn't able to eat much. The waiter took notice and was able to pack it up for me to go. She asked how many sauce cups Id like and prepared them for me. I must've left them on the table by accident. I'm unsure about this next part but some how they found out I was staying in the Fairfield inn right next door (either they saw me walk that way I'm guessing). I paid by credit card so they had my name. They called the hotel and asked if I was staying there, and the hotel confirmed. They sent over a pizza delivery guy to my room to drop off the sauce I left!!! To me I didn't even care that I left it, it was just the gesture. They could've easily blown it off, I would've forgotten and it'd be the end of it. They took the extra step which is why I'd recommend them.
It saddens me that I'm not a local and can't support them by coming back again, but this is the least I can do. Thanks for the...
