Country Cupboard — Restaurant in Streator

Good- I love that I can order lunch 1st thing in the morning! Working midnights, I don't always want breakfast food because for me it's dinner time. My meals are always hot and most everything I have ever ordered from there has tasted good.

Bad - #1 I ordered a side of white gravy for my chicken fried steak sandwich and I might as well have just ordered a cup of warm milk. The gravy was very runny and it had absolutely zero flavor. I had to add salt and a ton of pepper to give it flavor. And dipping my sandwich in it was challenging because it was so runny it didn't stick.

Bad - #2 The wait staff isn't always as friendly as other places I frequent. I feel like I'm rushed when placing my order and like I'm inconveniencing them just by being there. I asked what came on the chicken fried steak sandwich and the waitress acted as if I should know and kind of grumpily told me what other people have...

Hidden away down a side street in downtown Streator is a long established cafe. Famous for pie. It has a menu full of favorite midwestern fare. Food is plentiful. Thursdays special, meatloaf, came with soup, a side and choice of potato and dessert (pumpkin bar or brownie). The food was good but not exceptional. The side of baked beans outshined the meatloaf easily which was in need of some flavor and slightly dry. The chicken noodle and cream of cabbage soup were both tasty after the addition of a little salt. I'm excited about returning for breakfast. I suspect that they will really shine in that area. You won't find any surprises just a well balanced menu that doesn't overwhelm with too many choices. Homey food and atmosphere are reassuring and service is very good. Definitely a return visit...

Awful service with even worse food. My wife and I ended up having 2 waitresses, the first was rude and could barely speak English. We had no salt on the table, ketchup was empty, and all the food was incredibly bland and lacking in every way possible. The gravy on the country fried steak was pasty white goo with no flavor! I ordered 2 over easy eggs, one was cooked properly the other was severely over cooked. And just like the steak, nothing had any seasoning on it! The bathroom was filthy with urine on the floor and toilet had fecal residue on it, along with having no trash bag in the can and no paper towels. Would give this place 0 stars if possible. Do Not...
