I visited twice this week because I got my car repaired at Wolfgangās Auto Repair & Sales (thee best mechanic-BMW/foreign, whatever⦠he can fix anything). WHEN BMW DEALERSHIPS CANT FIGURE OUT the problem, they send it to Vladimir. And his prices rival the dealershipās high costs too.)⦠.I live far and wanted to avoid rush hour traffic, so I stopped to give The Diner at Sugar Hill a try.. I truly wanted to like this place, but the Greek salad is hands down good. I even paid .75 each for extra grape leaves because I love them.. I had the salad both visits (the second time they forgot the olives). For a $12 large, the serving size could be larger. The cucumbers need to be cut smaller (not semi circle/half) and grape tomatoes should be firm and not mushy and not refrigerated. They could be slightly chilled upon serving )best flavor is yielded when they arenāt placed in a refrigerator and when the are firm and super fresh.
The first visit, I had the tempura battered seafood. The batter was mushy and fell off- maybe the oil was old⦠idk. The scallops slid out of the batter (were they dried off prior to dipping in the tempura ?)⦠idkā¦Maybe the best cook wasnāt there on Wednesday. I didnāt eat my food- did mention it to the waitress (she shrugged her shoulders) and I didnāt ask for a refund. I took it home (needed to be cooked more).. idk Came back in town Friday to return a rental and pick up my vehicle. I gave this place a try again, plus I wanted the grape leaves and I tried the Greek salad again (always get extra grape leaves). Donāt buy the serving/appetizer of grape leaves as theyāre cheaper at 75 cents a pop.
This time I tried the fire grilled chicken gyro. The chicken had a great taste. The sandwich bread was good. But what makes this sandwich is a great tzatziki sauce. This was not even close to what Iām accustomed to. The sauce was watery, too much vinegar, no cucumber, no flavor⦠it was the worst Iāve ever had and Iāve always loved it, so Iād ask for extra sauce on the side.
Maybe people are ok with sub par tasting food. These people need to get some recipes, do a taste test, and decide which recipe is the best because whatever is going on in that kitchen needs to change⦠maybe they offer too many menu choices. I spent close to $100 with them this week, and the Greek Salad and the grape leaves are the only reasons for the stars (it was good, even though it couldāve been better)⦠The service was ok both days. The server on Friday was the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Good: The food was tasty and portion sizes were reasonable.
The Bad: The food was overpriced for what we were given - tempura seafood is VERY heavily coated and deep fried. The other dishes I did not taste myself but other party members had the same opinion that their food was not really as appetizing as the fancy description. The prices reflected the fancy descriptions but the food didn't really deliver.
The older lady who waited on us was in training and was inattentive and a bit rude. When she was taking our order she was obviously hard of hearing because I, right beside her, said and pointed to what I want on the menu and she still didn't get it. She loudly asked her trainer what other people ordered too, like it was a task for her to have to ask again. She never refilled our drinks, only the nice lady training her did. We had a larger party and the wait was a bit long for our food, and then after we asked the older lady for the check, I caught the her just staring at us and not making any move to get said checks for us. Eventually the nice trainer lady came and asked us how to split the bill and promptly came back to us. By then we were late for the game we were attending after, but at least not by much. (1.5 hours from sit down to check, 8 people)
The UGLY: I found a bit of metal stuck to one of my shrimp tempura. It was a small sliver of aluminum foil or something similar by the looks of it but never should have made it to a customer in that state. I almost bit down on it. I didn't mention it because we were already running late and I didn't want to cause a fuss. Pictures included the offending bit and my "tempura".
TL;DR the food not what was advertised, and a bit overpriced. The taste was okay, nothing was inedible, but it wasn't what we expected. Portions were good. The service we received was two ends of the spectrum (one horrible waiter and one good), and I ended up with a metal...

My son and I recently had the pleasure of trying the Belgian Waffle Combo at The Diner of Sugar Hill], and it was an absolute delight!
The waffle itself was a work of art - perfectly golden, crisp on the outside, and wonderfully fluffy on the inside. It had that delicious, slightly sweet aroma that's so characteristic of a well-made Belgian waffle. Topped with a generous amount of sprinkled powdered sugar, served with a cup of warm, rich maple syrup, and a scoop of soft whipped butter, it was a visual treat that made my eight year olds mouth water.
What truly sets this dish apart is the impeccable combination. The waffle's sweet undertones paired beautifully with the crisped bacon, two scrambled eggs with rich cheddar cheese and the maple syrup added just the right touch of salty sweetness. The whipped butter was the perfect finishing touch, providing a light, airy contrast to the rest of the components.
The portion size was more than satisfying, and I left the restaurant feeling happily full. The waffle combo was not just a meal but an experience that left me and my son with a smile on our faces.
The ambiance at The Diner was also noteworthy, with attentive and friendly staff who made the dining experience even more enjoyable. A special thank you to our beautiful waitress Nat and her Manager Kamal (My sincere apologies in advance if I misspelled your names).
If you're a waffle enthusiast or just someone looking for a delightful breakfast or brunch, I highly recommend trying the Belgian Waffle Combo at The Diner It's a delicious, memorable treat that we are looking forward to enjoying again.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with my visit. This is a restaurant I'll be returning to, and I'm excited to explore more of their menu in the...
