Houston’s {Low-Rated} Dining—A Chinese Food Experiment Got dragged out for Chinese food by a friend. Since we didn’t want to go far, we picked a long-standing spot nearby… and it was a letdown! The restaurant was spacious but nearly empty—just a few customers. 1️⃣ **Curry Beef Brisket Pot**: No curry flavor at all. The brisket was overly fatty, and the green peppers were purely for color—zero taste. 2️⃣ **Sizzling Black Pepper Beef**: Should be sizzling with oil, right? This was just watery. The beef was tender but cut too thick—more like slices than strips. Had a weird beefy taste—just not my thing. 3️⃣ **Shrimp with Cashews**: Didn’t expect it prepared this way. The shrimp was fresh, and there were plenty of cashews. Overall, this dish was okay. 4️⃣ **Garlic Choy Sum**: Basic but generous portion. 5️⃣ **Complimentary Appetizer Soup**: Honestly better than any paid dish. 😂😂😂 6️⃣ **Free Red Bean Soup**: Too watery—the beans and broth were separate. Not authentic at all. This Hong Kong-style café also serves seafood (glad we skipped it 😩). Prices were fair, and service was quick, but the flavors missed the mark. Rating: ⭐⭐✨ **2.5/5**—Not my taste, but maybe it’s yours. 🙄🙄🙄 @foodie Location: Houston Sugar Land. We just left here…We used to come here a lot, but then work happened and haven’t had time to come by. Welp, the food and service has changed DRASTICALLY. The new staff that was there today was talking bad about us, not knowing I understood EVERY bit! They kept saying how they need to keep an eye on us because we chose to sit close to the door so we might end up running. Then they said, that they’re Mexican and don’t have money you can tell. They kept on going on and on and I only stayed because we were very hungry and had to get back to work right after. The food was terrible, like I said we were hungry and short on time. I ordered Teriyaki chicken, it was ALL onions no chicken! The serving size has also changed, I get it inflation. But that’s a drastic change in portion size. We didn’t take pics, should have, but we were starving and in a hurry. My husband ordered pineapple house special fried rice. Without the FRIED. Rice was white and bland. We ordered our baby his egg drop soup, can’t complain about that one. Then we ordered our baby coconut chicken. Which is what we took a picture of, he didn’t touch it at all so we had to take it to go. Again, ALL ONIONS, no shrimp. I’ve never seen coconut shrimp like this, with onions, carrots, and potatoes. Only 4 pieces of shrimp! So I paid for rice potatoes onions and carrots and all that sauce to hide that there was no shrimp. lol. This is crazy and ridiculous. We didn’t have the time to argue or ask for them to correct it. But let’s be honest, what would they have said about that if they were already talking about us as Mexican criminals. Side note: we’re not Mexican, my husband is Honduran and I’m Native. This place is no longer considered family oriented in my opinion. I’ll no longer be coming here. And even through the trash talking, we still tipped. Since that’s what you were mostly concerned about. “They don’t have money they’re not going to tip just watch them and get the license plate” Yes, I understood. Anyways, may yall have a great day.

Original review follows, this is an update. We have been here enough now that I know what I like: the King Pao Chicken combo. I get the the eggroll and brown rice. I get a small bowl of wonton soup as well. They know me as well, and automatically bring the jar of hot chili oil. . This last visit featured lots of families with small children. We were the only ones without kids! It was nice to see well behaved youngsters. . We come back here because we very much enjoy it! . Original review: Jade Cafe has a large menu, but I always order Kung Pao Chicken on my first visit to a Chinese restaurant. That way, I have a standard basis for comparison. The version here was quite nice, neither too sweet nor too spicy. Service was prompt, as well. . My favorite, though, was the Won Ton Soup; it was among the most flavorful I've had. Delicious! It was our first time but not our last.

My wife and I have eaten both at the restaurant and through delivery and have never had a single complaint. We prefer delivery, out of convenience after long days, and use DoorDash exclusively. Whenever we order from DoorDash, we've always added special instructions for our meal, i.e. dark/light sauce, addition of mixed veggies and inclusion of duck/hot sauces...and they are always 100% spot on, the attention to detail from Jade is incredible. These folks know how to run a restaurant and impress those with an appetite. The orders are delivered fresh and hot. Helpful hint: As a gauge for others ordering delivery and for food temp mentioned, we live roughly 3.5 miles from the restaurant. Our regular meal is: Beef W/Broccoli, Chicken Chow Main in dark sauce w/mixed veggies, egg rolls (with the duck/hot sauces) and egg drop soup. Generous portions, again, always hot when arriving at the doorstep. Jade is and always will be, our go...
