I have been living in the area for about 4 years, and Mai’s Teahouse was my favorite tea house. I have good memories of the place from previous years. I always order the same drink, and had never had a problem. This year, I have had two unpleasant experiences that have made me think about finding a new teahouse. I went in to order hot Cheetos with cheese and a piña colada smoothie with mixed fruit jelly. I received a corn cup with hot Cheetos instead of the hot Cheetos with cheese. I told the employee that I had actually ordered the hot Cheetos with cheese. Instead of replacing the incorrect item with what I had ordered, she said I should change my wording with how I order the food. (Not sure how I could be more clear when I listed the only two ingredients in the food item). I walked to my car, disappointed in the service, but trying to justify them with thinking that maybe they were having an off day, only to realize the smoothie was also incorrect. It had boba instead of mixed fruit jelly. I hate boba, so I went back. I explained to her the mistake. I said that I was pregnant, and that I was more sensitive to tastes and smells. I asked her to please make a fresh one, and not use the same smoothie with boba taste. She ignored my request, and used the same smoothie to remove the boba and add the mixed fruit jelly. The expectation of getting an item remade when an employee has made a mistake is a BASIC expectation. I left there with the wrong food, smoothie with boba taste, and extremely disappointed. Despite this past experience, I STILL tried to give the establishment another shot. I ordered the same drink, and it tasted awful. There was either an ingredient missing or the proportions were off. Based on my past experience with the same employee, I didn’t go back to ask for another, and ended up throwing...
Read moreI gave this place a second try and here is my outcome:
The guy in the front is very nice, very good customer service. This is the only good thing!
I asked for my milk tea to be only sweetened with honey. The person I told that to did not make my tea, so I don't think that memo was communicated. When I got my tea it was very sweet, and I could tell it wasn't the sweetness from honey.
I ordered a Jasmin Green Milk Tea. I have drank this at many places and love the special flavor it has. It did not have any type of special flavor that I love from the Jasmin Green Milk Tea.
The tea was hot, when I ordered a milk tea which is usually cold. Since the tea was hot, it melted all of the ice and made my drink very watery in just minutes.
I asked for little ice (since it was cold outside) and got half of my cup full of ice.
I normally pay $3.50/$4 for a Jasmin milk tea. This place charged me $5. I would understand if it was delicious... but it has a high price and it's not even good...
The guy in the front was busy with customers, and there was a line. No one was helping him with orders or making drinks. There was another employee quietly and calmly sweeping the area not minding at all that there were customers waiting. After she took her sweet time to sweet, she came to help the guy at the front. This does not make a customer happy when they are in a hurry.. Customers can notice the effort you put on the job. Carelessness is very visible.
I really tried to give this place a second try and it failed me. I was not satisfied at all. It was just a waste of my money. I will not be coming back ever again, nor...
Read moreI used to frequent this establishment almost daily until I realized they’d been charging me $0.25 and $0.50 more for light and no ice respectively on my tea orders. I get they factored ice levels into their pricing but all they had to do was let me know about the extra charge. It’s ironic because a few days before I realized this I’d shared with them that a different establishment had given me a 3/4 full cup when I asked for light ice and we all laughed. Little did I know they weren’t any better
UPDATE I just realized that the owner responded to my post but did not address my issue. The problem is not the pricing per se but the fact that no one thought it essential to mention the upcharge. It is simple, if I say I don't want ice, let me know first that you're going to charge $0.50 more don't just assume that I am okay with that. No matter how many times I frequent Chipotle, the servers ALWAYS let you know that the guacamole costs extra....
