All I can say is what a disappointment our $300 (including tip) dinner was.
The night started with my husband dropping me off to check in for our reservation. No hostesses greeted me when I walked in the building. I walked up to the hostess stand and I started talking to one of the hostesses, who ignored me and walked away. I then approached the main hostess working the computer. She was very rude and unwelcoming. The hostess confirmed we were here to celebrate my birthday, which is today on 11/6. I told the hostesses what color jacket my husband was wearing because he had not come in from parking our car yet and our table was ready. When my husband came in he was not welcomed by any hostesses either and ignored until he approached the hostess stand.
Upon arriving at our table no bread was delivered (which is a disappointment considering Halls bread and butter is amazing). We requested bread and 4 pieces were delivered (which was delicious and not a big deal). Our dirty plates sat on our table for upwards of 20+ minutes even after the waitress coming my our table MULTIPLE times and speaking with us. Our appetizer of $15 5 piece stuffed mushrooms was average. For our steaks my husband and I both ordered the filet mignons.
Our waitress did not ask if we wanted them either wet or dry aged and instead charged us for the most expensive cut ($62 each).
My husbands steak was burnt on the outside and all our food was luke-warm. We didn't speak up regarding any of the food because we were uncomfortable with the lack of welcoming service we had received so far.
This dinner was a birthday celebration for myself. Today is my actual date of birth. When I made the reservation I put in the reservation notes that it was my birthday, when I called to confirm my reservation I confirmed that we are coming for my birthday, when I checked in for our reservation I confirmed that we were there for my birthday, when I sat down the waitress asked what we are celebrating and I told her that it's my birthday. And still, after confirming MULTIPLE times, no birthday desert or champagne was brought to our table. Instead the manager brought us 2 champagne glasses after we had already checked out and boxed up our food "just because" (his words) INSTEAD OF FOR MY BIRTHDAY.
What an absolute disappointment this experience was. Considering we spent $300 and I made reservations...
Read moreThis is one the few restaurants in Summerville where you can get a decent steak and have top notch service. This visit was to celebrate my wife's birthday with her Mother. From a service perspective, Analese (our server) and the manager (Tiffany) were outstanding. And this is always consistent with Halls in the times I have gone. However where they need to improve is their serve times. Tiffany greeted us with complimentary champagne for my wife which was really nice. My food and my mother-in-laws food came out good, however my wife ordered a filet medium well which usually is a pink center. Not a huge deal, but we asked them to please recook another filet but not so well done. Tiffany graciously took the steak back and we unfortunately did not see the replacement for almost 20 minutes.
While waiting, they came out with a complimentary chop salad that my wife wasn't really interested in but she was appreciative and accepted it. Mom-in-law and myself finished our food and we were waiting for my wife to get her steak which finally came out. Unfortunately this time, the steak was prepared too rare with a solid red center. Due to the time and frustration, my wife just accepted it and ate her sides. Not to allow the day to be ruined, we indeed ordered a slice of cheesecake for desert. This took 15 minutes for it to come out, which was baffling. At this point, we just boxed up everything and finished our drinks before leaving. Was really hoping that the bill would have had a discount of some sort for trouble, but it was not to be. Of course I didn't ask them to take anything off so perhaps I should have asserted myself.
Overall, as stated previously, Analese and Tiffany were both great and fun to be around. However, the restaurant needs to do better with the serving times and preparation. We could have taken the steak back again, but who knows how long it would have taken. In the end, it was not a terrible experience but they need to step up with shorter wait times and better food preparedness. Halls definitely has that southern charm, but other than the service it really doesn't stand out from other steakhouses. We will go back for happy hour perhaps, but never for a full blown lunch or dinner. It just isn't worth the money for what you get. Thanks...
Read moreMy husband and I went on a Saturday night in mid-January to celebrate our anniversary and his birthday. He had been there once before for work and had ordered the lamb, which left a strong impression on him.
The Place: We made a great choice picking this place for the occasion—it was very classy, with soft music playing in the background and dim lighting, which created a romantic and special atmosphere. The only downside was that we were seated a little too close to the neighboring table.
What We Ordered: Pork Chop: It was a pretty filling dish. The pork was good, but it could have used a little more flavor.
Pancetta - Roasted Brussels Sprouts: I’m not a fan of Brussels sprouts, but my husband wanted to share this side so we ordered. The portion was really big—enough for two. I didn’t enjoy it much, but my husband liked it more.
Prime Ribs (with Truffle and M/O sauces): It was a large cut of meat and a generous portion overall. I must say the M/O sauce added a really good flavor, and I strongly recommend eating it with the sauce to enhance the dish because the meat on its own is too plain. (Note: the sauces have an extra cost.)
Apple Cinnamon Cheesecake: It was fine—nothing extraordinary, just pretty standard.
What We Drank: 434: I didn’t like the texture of this drink—it felt like a puree of pineapple with alcohol. It was a bit strong, and the flavor was just fine.
Bill's Bramble: This one was also okay, on the strong side as well.
I didn’t find myself falling in love with either of them.
Service: The service was good and very friendly. However, the only downside was that the waiter didn’t inform us that the sauces for the meats had an additional cost—we only realized when the check arrived.
Parking: There was plenty of parking available.
Feature: Since we mentioned we were celebrating my husband’s birthday, they kindly gave us a complimentary dessert, which we were able to choose.
The restaurant is on the expensive side, and although the food quality and portions were excellent, the flavors didn’t particularly wow me or leave a lasting impression. I’ve been to other meat-focused restaurants that I found...
