Atmosphere was nice. Not overly elegant for the price. But still done nicely for a stip store setting. Staff....host was nice. Seating was done quickly for a 6 pm on a Saturday. Do have a bar with six chairs. No liquor though. Just beer and wine. They were out of the salmon so I am doing the steak and duck fat potatoes. Appetizer is the duck dumplings. We will see. Side note. There is outside seating for 2 people about 4 tables.
Duck dumplings were very good. Paired with the cucumber salad it was a great contrast of textures. A little on the skimpy side with the sauce but all and all very nicely done and presented. Taste was great. Not over seasoned on the duck. I thought it was all in all a good appetizer. Trying to see if the duck dumplings are made in house....according to servor they are made in house. Nicely done.
Main course....steak and duck fat potatoes....only the good Lord knows how much I love beef and fat!!!! Lol. Plating was done nicely. Please see pics. Getting ready to sample.....potatoes were a little over seasoned and salty but were still delicious, asparagus was cooked perfectly with good texture and seasoned just right, steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Great flavoring and taste. Not over powering but leaves mouth wanting more.....all in all a very good experience. TRY THIS.....Taking a bite of the steak and sauce with a potatoe and asparagus is wonderful. A very good pairing on the veggies, sauce, meat and seasonings.
I did not do desert. I am already 25 pounds over weight and didnt feel like I needed to add to that tonight!!!! Lol. I did ask the front of the house for a desert menu to just see what they had prior to me leaving and she disclosed there is not one. She did tell me the items offered but you know as well as I do at my age, I forgot the the first two by the time she got to the third. Lol. Would recommend them putting one into play for the front just for the short memoried people like myself.
All in all guys. I felt like the food, staff, presentation, taste, etc. was on point over all. A new place will always have their flaws, but I think for what they have done thus far it wont take long to get over that. As long as they dont get complacent! Keep up the good work.
Finally, I am glad to see that Knightsville has gotten a well deserved Restaurant. Kudos to the staff and to the Chef. Thanks for good food. I will...
Read moreTwo years later and a new location (no longer in knightsville)
The food is still delicious and I think they are still coming into their aesthetic at the new location.
The duck dumplings were underfilled but what duck there was was delicious. The lobster bisque was spot on. Not a soup and not a chowder but a well flavored bisque.
The shrimp and grits are still some of the absolute best anywhere. A bit heavier than last time but the flavor is unreal (in a good way!). The filet is mouth watering good.
Two years later and this place is still likely the best restaurant in Summerville area! Easily the best restaurant in knightsville!
Service is as fast as I would expect for the price point and quality.
The atmosphere I think is still being developed ( we came in the first week). The menu is also still being developed (soup, wine, and dessert are still to come).
The shrimp and grits are likely the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot!). They are cheesy and savory without being hearty and overwhelming. The duck dumplings were delicious and surprisingly sweeter than I expected. The meatballs were good and I'd suggest them but they aren't at the same level as the rest of the food. The duck entree and steak entree were both well seasoned, well cooked, and well worth the money.
I haven't been this excited for a restaurant in a while and I cannot wait to bring friends and...
Read moreLa Chev is a must if you are anywhere near Summerville, NC. My wife googled "Shrimp and Grits" and thankfully La Chev was the result. This 1900's house was transformed to create the perfect atmosphere for this comfortable Charleston style French Restaurant with flair. The menu offers a perfectly unique selection of must try appetizers, or 1st Course, salads and soups, Main Course and of course Desserts. We loved the Coquille St. Jacque, scallops with bacon in a delicious creamy sauce, with garlic bread for dipping, and Dirty Deviled Eggs for starters. The Shrimp and Grits were amazing, and the Bouillabaise was so perfect. And, as you can tell by the pictures, the Budino, the Chef's creation that is somewhere between a chocolate mousse and pudding topped with homemade whipped cream and sliced strawberries didn't last long...The service was friendly, most helpful, knowing when to pleasantly engage, and when to leave us to enjoy. Well done La Chev 208. Congrats to Jason, Chef and staff! On a side note, we ate inside and the atmosphere was perfect. There is outdoor seating as well that appeared to be a fun setting with a little live entertainment on the night...
