I actually had the exact same experience as Michele Lisa, who also commented on this establishment. It was more than likely the same rude waitress too! I had heard such good things about their burgers and was thrilled to try this place. I had family in town and the three of us and a toddler also attempted to go in and check it out. It’s super small inside, very crammed, and there were only two, two person tables available but two people sitting a four person table (this same table later had a fifth chair pulled up to it for five people). So I attempted to pull up a chair and just have my son sit in my lap until another table became available for us so we could leave one table open for another guest. I made sure it was in the back corner so we would be out of the way and I got the worst response, attitude, and snarl from the staff who continued to treat everyone this way when she didn’t want to be bothered by them. She had the worst personality and was truly probably the only bad part about this place, which is such a shame because unfortunately she will continue to be what runs people off if someone doesn’t force her to correct her behavior. I won’t be back simply because of the way she handled things and also because if she’s concerned so much about possible fire hazards, I’m concerned why there is a table and boxes piled all up and down a hallway that leads to the restroom. I couldn’t get my son to the bathroom without squeezing past her and two guys sitting at a table in the hallway! Not worth the money for such a poor experience and I have no issues providing a 1-star experience. You can have the best food in the world, but if your staff is awful then the face of your business is awful! Such a shame for the owner cause I know my family and friends won’t be back, and those we know...

We were out and about on a lazy Saturday after Hurricane Dorian when we decided to stop in at this little burger shop in Summerville, SC. I was not prepared to question my exisitance and if I have even ever tasted a real burger before. We went in and sat down. Staff was super nice and quick. The items on the menu looked good and my wife settled on the Matt's Special and myself the burger melt. So far so good. Food came pretty quick and looked good. Then I tasted it...
I almost weeped. I am a 6'8" hulk of a man mind you. I had not ever tasted a real burger before. Sure I have been to 5 guys, In-n-out, smash Burger and any number of upper scale burger joints, but I had a revelation that until this point I had never tasted a real burger, just some analog substitute that looked the part.
What I got was a juicy smashed burger perfectly seasoned and cooked on a grittle, presented in buttered and toasted Texas toast with lots of cheese and sauteed onions. It was so good I was almost in disbelief. My wife's burger was also on another level and one I am going to try next time. When I say this was the best burger I have ever had I am not lying. It was so good that I almost wanted another on me on the way home.
Bottom line. I have been lied to by other burger perveyors up to this point, but have found burger nervana in Matt's Burgers. This is a true hidden gem.
Positives Taste Speed and friendliness of service Low cost high value
I'll be back many MANY times and you should go too. IDK Matt or his family but if they were the ones serving us, he and his family are doing...
Read moreI wanted to give 1 star… but I didn’t want to tarnish their rating over this one incident.
I have been going to Matt’s for years. I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and the burgers.(quesadilla is the bomb too). Seating is tight, this I fully understand, and try to go at times I know are usually down times.
But! Evidently on Saturdays after 2 pm they are still quite busy. From my past experiences, I know they always say just sit wherever. We got there (3 of us plus a toddler). There is only one two seat table available. There is a couple sitting at a table for 5. The fellow at the table say hold on let us check with the waitress. He comes back and tell us they are going to move to give us the table. Just waiting for them to clean the one 2 seat table for them. How sweet of them, right? Well a waitress comes out and is down right rude to us and the sweet couple. Stating we should check at the counter on Saturdays before assuming we can take a seat. She claimed she had people waiting for an open table. Which would be fine but the amount of loud, aggressive, rudeness from her was so over the top, I swear the whole restaurant gasped a little. They all stopped eating and conversing to see what the commotion was. Instantly embarrassed, we just skedaddled. I do not know if the other couple stayed or left.
I hope to get over this soon. One waitress shouldn’t spoil a whole restaurant but boy! How do they allow one like that...
