We paid for the holiday package which included an hour of bowling, an hour of unlimited arcade games (no ticket games), and a game of laser tag.
When we were bowling I noticed an employee (young white girl) serving food and drinks to another family a few lanes down. I didn't think much about. Every 10 or 15 minutes or so she would walk down there and check on them. My wife walked to the concession stand and got a pitcher of soda and some cups. A few minutes later I noticed another black family two lanes over walking to the concession stand and brought back food and drinks. No harm done.
Right before our one hour was up, a group of white kids sat in the lane next to us (we were in 17 and they were in 18). We finished bowling and we were getting our shoes on and guess who shows up to greet the white kids, the same young white employee and says, to the other group"Hi, can I get you guys anything?"
Now I am upset because she walked past us at least five or more times and didn't say a single word to us. But soon as the other group sits down, within minutes she is checking on them. It seems to me racism is still occurring, even in a public establishment as this place.
When we were putting our shoes up there was a black lady at the counter talking with the manager about her food. Apparently she has been waiting over an hour for her food and never received it. I can't say which employee was handling her food issue, but this is ridiculous.
To make matters worse, we asked the guy at the arcade about how the laser tag works. He explained that every 15 minutes a game starts and we can get in on any game. We waited until 10:45 for the last game and was told we had to reserve a spot to play, even though there were no players for the current game 0/30. After about 10 minutes of trying to figure something out they decided to let my three kids play, but said since they are closing at 11 they would not go over the rules or let them see the video on how to play.
Overall, I don't think I will be back. This was my first experience and it was ridiculous and unprofessional.
I am not sure who the employee is that was clearly racist, but she worked on 12/21/2022 between 8:30 and 9:30 PM. She had brown hair and I believe she had glasses (can't quite remember). Hopefully the staff can determine who she is and...
Read moreWe have been to Stars and Strikes a few times and it has always been a fun time. But we just went this evening and it was absolutely terrible. We got there around 7:30pm had to wait over 30 minutes, just to get our name on the waiting list for a lane to bowl (there were 2 big groups ahead of us that couldn't decide on how to split their payments so not the guy at the counters fault) then was told we were 3rd in line for a lane. My husband pointed out that there were 3 empty (socially distanced) spots for lanes and the guy said he needed to make sure they were cleaned before he could let anyone use them and he was the only one working the bowling area and he had a line. So we wait around 25 more minutes and we finally get a lane just before 8:30. We paid for their bowl/arcade special thats suppose to be for 3 hours but we knew we would only get an hour and a half since they closed at 10. We figured we would bowl for 45 minutes while we ate then spend the rest of the time in the arcade. While we were waiting, my husband went to the bar and orders us food because we knew the kitchen was going to be closing at 8:30 and expected it would take a little while for the food to cook. So we start bowling and around 9 the waiter comes over and says our food should be up in a few minutes. Then at 9:10 he comes back over and asks what we ordered. We tell him and he says okay and he saw them coming up so he was going to go grab them. At 9:20, he still isnt back so my husband goes up to the bar and asks for an update because now it's been an hour since we ordered. They said the food was just being dropped, so my husband tells them to not worry about it and just take it off our tab and the girl at the bar tells him she can't do that because the food is already being cooked. At 9:30 I ask to speak to a manager and someone comes over and asks what the problem is, I explain the food situation and that I'm disappointed that I paid for arcade cards that we can't even use now because we were waiting on food that was just being cooked over an hour after it had been ordered. She ended up not even being a manager and had to go get someone else, who then issued us a refund. I am happy that I got a refund but I would have much rather spent the money and had an enjoyable time...
Read moreVisited the Summerville location for the first time today for my husbands birthday. It was just the two of us. We reserved a bowling lane almost 24 hours in advance. I paid $15 to reserve the lane. Mind you, that fee is only to reserve the lane. It’s non-refundable and won’t be added to the cost of bowling. We were able to go to the fast lane with a reservation, but our lane had been given away. The staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a VIP lane for the price of the regular one, but not before they finished helping the people behind us in line who they had made the same mistake for and given their lane away. So we waited almost 30 mins in the fast lane to be helped and get over to a lane. We paid for a total of 4 games. Half way through the third game, the monitor said we had run out of time and the pins were covered by the machine that sets them back up. So there wasn’t a way to just resume playing without having to get a staff member to add more time. We weren’t informed the VIP lanes were on timers, unlike the standard lanes. At this point, my husband and I felt like leaving bc the experience had already been frustrating. When I explained the situation, the manager told me about the time limit and said he just hadn’t gotten around to putting more time on our lane. When I asked for a refund for the last game, they said that was not possible. Granted, we paid $1.99 a game on the Sunday special, so it’s not a huge loss. I’m mainly disappointed my husbands birthday plans were interrupted and that we weren’t treated fairly. I know the company will not do anything, I am simply just sharing our experience in hopes of warning others of the money grubbing policies this establishment likes to enforce.
2/14/23: I’m updating the review because I see I received one of the two generic responses from the owner. I will not be giving you my contact information. I won’t be coming back and giving you my business. I would suggest you develop better policies and customer service training so that everyone can have a good time and be treated fairly. Not just your big birthday parties. And if the owner has anything further to respond you can leave it right here where everyone else can...
