My father-in-law called and wanted to take us to lunch. He was headed our direction and wanted us to pick a place to grab breakfast. We have lived in Sumner for 5+ years and love supporting our local community so we decided to go to Dixie's Home Cookin'. Sadly our experience was far from what we had hoped for and expected. We sat down to decide what we wanted to eat and soon we all had decided, my husband ordered first, then my father-in-law and then it was my turn. I had eaten earlier and wasn't too hungry so I decided to share a kids meal with my 18 month old. He rarely eats everything on his plate so it was perfect. When ordering, the waitress told me I couldn't order a kid's meal if I was going to be sharing it. At that point, my husband stepped in and asked why. She mentioned she would get in trouble if her boss saw us sharing. My husband asked if she could talk to her manager to see if they could make an exception. She said no. My husband said, so you aren't going to go ask your manager, and she said no. So at that point, my husband let her know we would be leaving then. If that is their policy then no problem, we just wanted to ask for an exception and if the manager wasn't willing then that's fine. What is upsetting about the entire situation is how the waitress responded to the situation. Customer service is HUGE for us and that is not how you treat a customer. There are so many other respectable ways to handle that situation. We were never rude nor disrespectful yet that's exactly how we were treated. We drive by this restaurant literally every day yet we will never walk through those doors again. All over a $5 difference between the kid's meal and...
Read moreWe go there often, but last week when my mom & I went there we ordered one breakfast to share. It included, 2 pancakes, hash browns, 2 eggs. I ask that my egg to be cooked over medium almost hard, no yolk. It came just barely cooked, so I took it back & ask that they cook it almost hard. The waitress brought it back not even 2 minutes later, with it just warmed on one side, yolk was the same as when I ask. The pancakes were cold, to where the butter wouldn't even melt. And the hash browns were cold. When we were almost done the waitress asks how it was. I told her exactly how it was, she walked away and came back a few minutes later and ask if we would like another breakfast. We told her no, that we were almost done, why ask now? When I got the check it had the regular price on it for the breakfast. I thought they would at least take a little off for everything on the plate being cold or wrong. So, I went up to the counter to pay & ask the other waitress if they could take some off, she said she couldn't but she would get the waitress that waited on us. Our waitress came out from behind the partition, stomped past me to the back, to ask the owner, I'm assuming if she can reduce our bill. She came back to the till & said that she can only take 10% off, because she offered us another breakfast & we refused. I told her that we refused because we were almost done when she ask, & why would we want another breakfast when we got one to share? Does that make any sense? I told her that we go there often, & it's always been good, so hopefully next time it will be, but It'll be a long while...

5/18/25: I used to love Dixie’s and even left a glowing review in the past praising the staff and the food. Unfortunately, today’s experience was a total 180—and deeply disappointing.
I came in around 2 PM, drawn in by the “Breakfast Served All Day” sign out front. But when I was seated by Sam the waitress, there was no breakfast menu—just a small “breakfast for dinner” section. I ordered French toast with eggs (over medium) and asked to sub the meat for kielbasa. Simple enough, right?
What followed was a parade of red flags: • Cold, overcooked eggs • Undercooked French toast with raw batter inside • Wrong meat (bacon instead of kielbasa), which made it seem like the server either didn’t listen or assumed I wouldn’t pay the upcharge • Coffee was lukewarm, and I had to flag her down just to get a refill—despite the restaurant being nearly empty
This was a far cry from the cozy, welcoming diner I remembered. Poor service, poorly cooked food, and a complete lack of care from staff who seemed to be going through the motions at best.
Dixie’s used to be a local staple. Now it just feels like a ghost of what it once was. Based on today, it’s not hard to imagine this place closing down soon—because no one seems to...
