Situated next to the Wild Palms Hyatt, this very small Middle Eastern market sells a small selection of dry packaged, bottled items, and some frozen items. The meat counter sells various cuts of poultry, beef, and lamb. This market sells very good and and very reasonable prices hot foods - specifically kebabs and grilled items cooked to order, take-outs only. There are no tables/seats in the market.
I discovered this place when I stayed at the Hyatt next door and continued returning to order the grilled foods. I believe the highlight of this market is the kebab / grilled foods. The key to having a smooth experience with ordering the food is to order over the phone well in advance of the pickup time. 30-45 minutes is the usual cooking time quoted.
When ordering the kebab koobideh, specify if you want the meat moist or dry. Also, specify if you want the bread (lavosh) separate from the kebabs. The grilled veggies (tomatoes, onions, and jalapeno peppers) are grilled and rotated on all sides cooked just right. Some other kebab places just grill on one side where the cooked side is too soft and the un-grilled side crunchy. The grilled koobideh, grilled chicken kebabs, grilled chicken breast pieces, grilled sirloin, and grilled tandoori chicken were all cooked just right (not dry). The koobideh's lamb smell is very subtle, not overpowering like some other places.
The prices for the grilled foods here is very good quality and probably the most reasonable in the Bay Area. Repeat customer.

Read moreWe arrived at this place to try the bbq after hearing from lots of friends that the owner is hospitable and kind gentleman. Per Google they close at 8:30 pm and we arrived at 735 pm an hour before the closing time.
However as we proceeded to wait our turn and then try to figure out where to order the lady at the counter in the most hostile manner spoke to us and immediately refused the order saying they had closed down for the night. I told her that we drove 45 minutes to try and the website clearly says they close an hour after however she just stared and made an arrogant face. I very politely said let me speak to the gentleman that is making the kababs as we had heard great things about him. She extremely arrogantly said she was the owners wife she won’t be entertaining any orders.
As I very sadly was walking past the guy still doing bbq I told him what happened. Before he could speak and he tried to be polite and apologized but the lady jumped from behind him and started being hostile again saying no they were rude to me I won’t take the order.
I am still in shock about the whole experience. I drive so excitedly to support a local business I am terribly disheartened at such arrogant behavior coming from the so called owners wife. I hope the lady gets the much needed help and stops harassing customers.
Best to luck to all who go and try to place and order with her help. My bad luck the...
Read moreWe got dinner from Al Forat. I asked my husband to drive from Fremont to Sunnyvale. 30 mins there and 30 mins back but wow, it was worth it. We got 4 beef kababs, 4 chicken kababs, 4 chicken skewers and 1 tandoori chicken (which is 4 pieces of tandoori chicken). I made a fresh salad with the greens.
We warmed up the food in the oven when my husband got home and it tasted so good! The lavash bread under the meat was delicious. My husband is on a keto diet and this was perfect for that. I saw several people asking about keto in this group and definitely Al Forat fits the bill. Just skip the lavash bread if you're doing keto.
All the food was really good but we all decided that our favourite was the chicken skewer. It's chicken breast charbroiled - which is very easy to dry out if you don't know what you're doing. it's obvious Al Forat knows what they're doing! It was so juicy. second favourite was the tandoori chicken followed by either kababs. But honestly, I could eat any of these options any day. The spices are perfectly balanced and the meat is well marinated.
All this food was for $52 after taxes mashallah. Al Forat might serve halal food but at these prices we felt like it was a steal 🤣
This place has quickly become a family favourite. Instead of frustrating ourselves whenever we want coal bbqed food I think we'll just go to the...
