Our experience here was pretty bad.
The night started off rather decent, with our appetizers and drinks coming rather quickly and then quickly went down hill from there.
Our waiter disappeared and the bus boy became our server. We never received all of our meal, although we were promised it "soon" multiple times. We had veal and chicken piccata with no pasta and our bread never came. To those who don't know, eating this dish without noodles is very similar to trying to eat spaghetti and meat sauce without the spaghetti. One of my children's meals came out a whole 5 minutes after the entrees were served to us.
We decided to eat our entrees after 10 minutes of no pasta because the entree was getting cold.
We continued to ask for our pasta and bread but never received it. We continued to see other guests get pasta and bread, so we know that they didn't run out of pasta and bread.
After finishing our meal, we waited 15 minutes or so but still no server, so we had to get up and go to the front of the restaurant to ask for our check.
The server apologized for not getting us the parts of our order that were missing but still decided to charge us for the entire meal! When we alerted him that we would not be paying for food that we did not receive, he argued with us that it was "just pasta and bread". Well, I understand that pasta and bread are fairly cheap, but when it makes your entree no longer an entree, but a messy bit of sauce and soup with some meat slapped in the middle of it, to me this is not "just pasta and bread".
And I would think that the first rule of customer service should have applied here: Make the customer happy. We should have been compensated for the missing food and more for the missing experience and missing wait staff. At the very least, we shouldn't have needed to have an argument to get a measly 10% discount off of our bill to compensate for the...
Read moreWent over for the closed Jazz Street Fair event on Murphy Street and kept seeing all these delicious East Coast pies rolling out. So I had to naturally get one. Honestly the best East Coast style New York Pizza I've had out West in a good seven years. My favorite spot used to be A slSlice of New York, but because of their inconsistent food, high turnover, snarky attitude... they just got bumped.
The staff at Gumba's were all a great balance of friendly, and professional.. and the prices were very reasonable. They had a great family deal, but it was just my father and I, and we couldn't handle that type of commitment unfortunately. Ambiance inside made me feel like I was back in New York working in the old school Italian restaurants from my college years. Felt like home. We'll definitely be back for dinner. In my opinion the whole experience was much better than the pretentious spot just around the corner, (although that is definitely good if you're looking for a more Italian California fusion, pricey option.
Quite possibly my new South Bay favorite. But if you're a crabby critic that can't appreciate an older world italian concept, time-tested establishment..... don't blame me. The canopy out front is weathered and worn. To some that would be a sign of criticism. Like, why haven't they replaced this? Because it's a badge of honor holding down the block. Fuggedaboutit...
Read moreHere to return the favor (An eye for an eye) Wish I could zero star this disgrace of a restaurant.
The Story: I'm a Uber Eats Delivery Person (Bike). When I got to the restaurant, I put down my insulated backpack and the guy literally grabs it and stuffs the pizza boxes into there. The pizzas don't fit first of all, but the guy has the audacity to tell me if I could carry it on the opposite side (You know, the side without the straps attached to my back...)
I try to mess around with trying to fit the pizza boxes in, but no luck and at this point I turn to tell the guy that it would be better if I cancelled the order and for another Deliverer to pick it up. He states that the pizza is already damaged and that I have no choice but to deliver it. I have to put the pizzas vertically due to them not fitting in my bag, which in the end damaged the pizzas. The customer wasn't too happy and that also means I'm not happy.
Overall unsatisfactory experience (UNSAT) and to add insult to injury, the merchant downvoted my delivery (In the process messing up my rating % even more), even though he put me in this mess in the first place.
If there is a next time for delivery (Which I highly doubt because I've added this restaurant to my no-go list)
Do not, and I mean DO NOT, EVER TOUCH MY BACKPACK WITHOUT MY...
