House's Patio Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Sunset Beach

We used to love this place under the previous owners, but sadly, our recent visit was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, we were told there would be a 45-minute wait because the kitchen couldn’t keep up — despite the restaurant being half empty. When I asked why the wait was so long, the hostess said, “You’re not from here, the wait is like this everywhere,” which was both presumptuous and incorrect, as we own a home locally and are very familiar with the area.

We then asked to walk down and look at the water while we waited, but were told we couldn’t because it was now considered a bar area — even though there was a baby in a high chair eating in that exact space. When we asked if we could at least get a drink from the bar, the staff replied, “You have to be 21,” despite the fact that I’m 40 and clearly there with my family.

At the same time, my husband had gone upstairs to order a drink with our 9-year-old walking beside him. A staff member snapped and aggressively pointed at our daughter, saying “She can’t be in here!” It was rude, unnecessary, and the final straw.

My family and I were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was absolutely wonderful and you could definitely tell everything is most likely homemade. My husband and son raved about the fish and my daughter loved the boneless wings. I ordered the chicken and waffles that somehow never made it to the table. That would be my only negative about our time there tonight. I'm not sure what exactly happened but I never received my order and when I inquired about it I was never really given a reason for it happening. They did however redeem themselves with the free piece of cheesecake and the fact that when I finally got to eat my meal at home, it was still amazing! We'll definitely go back! I would just suggest the server following their food out to the table if they're not running it themselves, to make sure everyone gets everything they ordered. If there is 5 star here, trust me, it was paid for. I’m no chef, but I know edible food and this wasn’t it. Greeter was not a greeter, more like underpaid relative. We did not feel welcome walking in. Bartender was not attentive AT ALL. Not just to us, but everyone except the Woman he was flirting with. 20 minutes after finally being sat,(there were at least 15 tables open when we walked in) we ordered the ahi tuna which had a fishy tasting ending, and just a little soy. No ginger, wasabi, or anything. Ordered the seafood pasta that tasted like something out of a Campbell’s can. Also ordered the fried fish and it looked like a meteorite and wasn’t the greatest.
