So I have been a paying customer in this shop on MULTIPLE occasions. Yet.... Today, I was stopped and told that I needed to remove my hat in order to be allowed to be in the store or buy a bit of candy from this establishment (no visible signs posted about this rule). I asked why, and they could not provide me with any reason, even though I have been in with a hat every time I have come in and spent plenty of money on candy... Along with other paying customers who have also had hats on (one visit I brought in my father in-law with a big cowboy hat on)............ Also, for the record, my hat was a plain (non-offensive) dad-hat-style hat with a simple "218" on it, it was not worn straight sideways or crooked, my pants were not belted around my knees, I was dressed respectable.... Yet I am discriminated against for wearing a hat?! I will NOT be in to this establishment to spend MY hard earned money EVER again after...
Read moreIt's a cute memory lane candy store but I would not buy anything made in house as I saw an older gentleman scooping chocolate and then licking his fingers on the way over to whatever he was making, no hand washing. Also a gal was handling the register and cash and then went into the kitchen with no glove exchange and went back to working on candy making. For having windows inside into the prep kitchen you'd think you'd try to have it organized or tidy. Also the ice cream parlor would be amazing the way it's set up, I see what he is going for but is set up poorly. No pricing for ice cream cones or dishes, malts. Etc. No idea what they offer. Cute place to sit and play a board game or whatnot, but the items made in house have poor presentation. No one greeted us, no music or any fun atmosphere But if you're looking for a fun variety or old school options, absolutely go. But eh on in...
Read moreA lot of good old-fashioned candy and sodas that you can't find anywhere else, but I was disappointed in the "homemade chocolates". For example, one of the chocolates I got was a chocolate covered brownie. The chocolate itself may have been homemade, but the brownie reminded me of a super processed pre-packaged snack cake that you get from the grocery store. At nearly $17 per pound, I expect better quality. There are other places in the area that cost only slightly more and make all of their chocolate candies from scratch. With that being said, I tried a couple of other chocolates and thought they were okay. I liked the extensive collection of old-fashioned candies and sodas. It's very hard to find these items elsewhere, and they were priced well. I didn't try the homemade ice cream, but the flavors sounded good and I remembered thinking that the prices...
