When in Surfside Beach, Texas, you are never far from the Gulf of Mexico. The city isn’t that large, but there is a decent selection of places for dining and if you like to hear the sound of the ocean waves while you eat and drink, then the restaurant for you is Seahorse Bar and Grill.

I have been to Seahorse Bar and Grill a few times and have been satisfied with each visit. This restaurant serves American style food with a large variety of grilled and fried seafood. If you love seafood, you will love the options they serve. If you’re not a fan of seafood, don’t worry- they serve many other choices including appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and desserts. I usually go for a burger or sandwich and I always leave feeling full. The reason is that the burgers are big- most of them contain a half pound of meat. If you’re not terribly hungry, you may want to cut your burger and share with a friend.

Seahorse Bar and Grill has a full-service bar and the beer selection is generally good. They have indoor and outdoor seating, so you always have an option. But I recommend outdoor seating whenever possible because you can look at the Gulf of Mexico and listen to the waves crashing against the shore. I always ask for a seat as close to the water as possible, for the best views. They have multiple levels of seating here, too.

Waterfront restaurants are my favorite type of restaurant. Ocean front are my favorite of all, and Seahorse Bar and Grill is a cool place for those who like to dine, drink, and listen to the waves. The restaurant is directly on the water so you can walk straight to the sand and water after you finish eating. It’s a fun place to dine in this lesser- known Texas...

Misleading menu, weak service, and poor value for the price.

We were excited to visit this place once again, but this recent experience left us disappointed and frustrated. The menu clearly states the $32 grilled Red Snapper is fresh—but what we received was unmistakably frozen. It was bland, rubbery, smelly, and tough. At the time, no one in my family wanted to be the first to say it, but the next day we all agreed: the fish was awful.

The fried oysters were small and unimpressive. The shrimp and fries were the only bright spots. Chips and salsa were fine, nothing special.

Service was polite but inexperienced. The waitstaff and host team seemed undertrained, and the overall atmosphere felt disorganized and too relaxed for a restaurant in this price range.

I also agree with another reviewer that the table height was awkward and the surfaces were sticky—not a great first impression. We chose to eat outside, but one unpleasant detail stood out: birds urinated on us during the meal. The outdoor patio is not a clean and comfortable dining environment.

Message to ownership and management: At this price point, expectations are higher. “Fresh” should mean fresh. Staff should be better trained to provide a more professional dining experience. I hope you’ll take this feedback seriously, because as it stands, I wouldn’t return—and I’d caution others to...

The absolute WORST expierience I have ever had!!!! If i could give negative stars, it would be negative 1000 stars. I walked up from the beach and into the bar with no problems. I was the only patron at the bar so obviously I got service.. i asked the bar tender, Arcy, if the the fries were seasoned which she pomptly said no. To which i said "Ok, the are just seasoned with salt and pepper." And she answered, "Yes." The reason i asked is because my wife had diatery restrictions in which she needed to eat low fodmap and low histamine. When I received my food, the fries clearly had some type of batter with seasoning so I asked her, "I thought you said these fries weren't seasoned?"... they clearly were. She said, "You didn't ask if they were battered." I said, "I am sorry but, I need to return this." The only reason I was ordering anything was for the fries for my wife. She quickly became beligerant and got in my face saying that I asked if they were not seasoned and not battered. I have never been treated so poorly at any restaurant. DO NOT order from here!!!!!!!! Arcy is the WORST!!!!!!!! Thank God, Sadie stepped in to refund my order because it was escalting to a shouting match between me and Arcy....WTF!!!!!!!!! I politely paid for my drink and left.. I repeat, DO NOT go here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worst place...

We made our first family vacation/long weekend getaway to Freeport/Surfside Beach. This place was recommended by a family friend and boy did it not disappoint! We had our family dog with us so learning that the patio/beach overlook allowed dogs already started things off right. We were greeted upon walking up the stairs and sat almost immediately with the most amazing view of the Gulf and beach. The waitress that we had was fantastic. Kept the drinks topped off, recommended some of her favorites and always was great about checking in. We started off with 2x orders of the boiled shrimp for appetizer and it was fantastic! Excellent seasoning, not too much spice and the cocktail sauce was definitely not store bought (which tasted amazing!). We had several drinks (Hurricanes and margaritas) both which I thought tasted great. I had the grilled Gulf snapper and it was delicious! My dad had the chicken fried steak and it covered the entire plate! The dirty rice left a little to be desired but it may not have just fit my taste. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to absolutely anyone! Between the views, delicious food, and great waitress, we will definitely be back if we head to Surfside again.
