We stopped on a Saturday morning at 8 am. One car in the parking lot with 12 or so spaces. The diner is a 2 story home obviously converted on a shoestring budget.... ramps, steps, and entry were adapted cheaply and are poorly constructed and arranged. The shoe string continues inside which is fine IF the food or service can outshine the atmosphere. Kitschy autumnal pumkinesque cardboard and plastic decor was here and there. A couple was seated at a table with a waitress hovering. On noticing us, their conversation fell in volume and we were asked to pick a table in a room of ten tables, mostly four tops.. As we got our seats and removed coats, the waitress concluded her personal conversation with the other couple and offered to bring us drinks. The coffee andvthevprices, it would turn out were the most positive parts of our visit. Menus were found and brought. The waitress to customer gossip we interrupted on entry continued, le bouncing off of the spartan room. After a few minutes with menus our orders were taken. I hoped for a larger meal and ordered eggs medium with corned beef hash, toast, and hash browns well done. My wife chose bacon and eggs. As we waited for food and Continuing with the on a shoestring budget theme, i noticed the chairs were so small a heavier person might break them. The silver ware wrapped in napkins was exceedingly thin light weight commercial flatware; so thin it made their use uncomfortable. The meals arrived and the distant conversations on car seats and grand kids resumed, swallowing the room; clearly the waitress and couple were older friends catching up... but missing a few points of attendance. No effort to upset with juices, no offer of catsup or hot sauce... the convo had her distracted... what arrived was disappointing. Eggs were cooked on overly high heat in oil rather than on butter or bacon fat and were blistered and had crackles around the edges... they reminded me of eggs at a military mess hall. My "well done" hash browns were the same golden color as my wife's. They were lightly crunchy outside and al dente in the middle with ZERO flavor or seasoning, so much so that the flavor of the oil dominated. The corned beef hash was also lightly crunchy on the outside and had been cooked as a patty leaving the inside still cold, raw, and runny. There was zero seasoning here as well. The light toast was standard wimpy American bread that had been offered a brief relationship with butter. To help the meal along we tried salt and pepper. The pepper pieces were too large to exit the shaker that could have been a grinder. So if you need lots of calories and good coffee on a budget and don't care too much about flavor I would advise going with bacon and eggs, bring your own pepper. The two of us escaped for less than $25.00. Your...
Read moreMy dad and I decided to come here for dinner, when we entered the building the place looked clean. We were greeted by one of the chef's there and he was very polite and welcoming, that night they were short staffed so he also had to service our table as well.
We ordered the "Onion Rings" for our appetizer and of all the onion rings I had were good or okay but the ones we had at Progress Diner were great, it had a great crisp and the batter they used was very delicious. My dad had the "French Onion Soup"; he thought it was okay and could use a little more seasoning.
For our main course I had ordered both breakfast and dinner entrees so I had the "Waffles w/ Strawberries" it was really good and I also had the "Progress Burger" and basically its a chilli cheese burger, I really enjoyed the burger especially the chilli poured over the patty.
My dad had the "Country Fried Steak w/ Baked Potato & Applesauce" and he had enjoyed everything and after I had tried a piece and I also agreed with him it was great.
We enjoyed our dinner and we do plan on coming back.
when we first arrived there were plenty of parking but the path to the ramped walkway leading to the entrance was a bit rough. So please be careful and...
Read moreI am a breakfast guy, so I'm picky. I had never been here, so I thought I would try it. I love it. Friendly service, and I was greeted as soon as I walked in. I got an omelet that had everything but the kitchen sink, and it was cooked perfectly. You could taste every individual ingredient. I also have a shocker: When you go to a diner, you expect the coffee to be hot brown water that was placed in close proximity to a coffee bean, but the coffee here was hot, dark, and strong. I got a second cup just because it was that good. The atmosphere is as clever as a plain paper bag, but it doesn't matter. Good food, great service,...
