We went to Waffle Hut, because it was within walking distance from our motel on the hill. There were booths, large round tables, and regular square tables, that could be arranged for large groups. Could easily seat about 50 people.
The menu is relatively large, and well priced. All of the traditional breakfast items, including grits and Belgian waffles. There was also lunch and dinner items. We opted for breakfast.
Our waitress was prompt at getting to our booth (seat yourself), and quickly brought our drink order. Our food order came about 10 minutes after the order, and was hot. Eggs were cooked correctly (sunny-side up), grits weren’t watered down, and the dripless syrup container was brought to the table hot.
Everything arrived as ordered. The egg and bacon order had 4 large strips bacon, and the 2-egg, sausage order had 2 really large patties of sausage. The Belgian waffle was golden in color, very light and airy, and thick. Exactly what a good Belgian waffle should be. The toast was 2 complete slices for each order.
We ordered a large breakfast, not being sure how much we’d get, but it turned out to be more than enough. I’d say you could eat breakfast for 2 for under $20 easily.
Nothing much about the inside to speak of, but the service and food more than makes up for that.
This is an easy...
Read moreRestaurant chains are there for a reason. And the reason is good. I get it. In a different town or state and don't have time to try something new you know exactly what you're gonna get from a chain. Good, bad, or usually indifferent. But if you're passing through, or even a local, give the Waffle Hut a chance. Kind of tucked away with no large "HERE WE ARE" sign it's easy to miss. But you'll be missing out. Just passing through on a motorcycle ride through some WV back roads I happened upon the Waffle Hut. I was given a menu with a lot of options for such a small place. I went with the biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs over medium. The service was wonderful, the biscuits, light and fluffy, were smothered under delicious thick peppered gravy, and eggs cooked to perfection. And the time was well past breakfast hours. I'm not around the Flatwoods area a lot but then next time I am I will be stopping in again to try something else off the menu. I was told their waffles are wonderful. Maybe I'll give them a taste. But I am a sucker for a good double bacon cheeseburger. Decisions decisions. And if the rest of the menu is as good as their biscuits and gravy? Hmm, I just may have to find myself back there quicker than I...
Read moreThis place has NO organization. We waited at least 5 minutes for a server to greet us and take our drink order, and then literally 20 seconds later another server came to take our drink order and we had to tell her we had already given our order. A few minutes later and the original server came to take our food order, then AGAIN the other server came to our table no more than 30 seconds later to take our food order, and again we had to tell her we already ordered. Not only was this annoying but it showed a complete lack of organization and made the second server look like she had no idea what she was doing. Our food came out fast and tasted great but when the server delivered the food she threw the check across us instead of just placing it on the end of the table where there was PLENTY of room. This was extremely rude and is the reason why I wrote this review. The management here is obviously lacking and they need to train their employees on basic serving decency. A server should never throw something onto a table for any reason. The food was good but it wasn't worth such an awful experience. This...
