I was so happy when I walked in. The place was really nice. I went and sat by a window. I had just gotten there and walked up to the counter to ask for the WiFi password. The owner said I have to buy something in order to get the password. That threw me off but I keep an open mind and try not to judge. All their drinks were so expensive, a small sparkling water was $2.75. I told her i would think about it and walked away. I sat at the table and used my hot spot. I stayed there for about 5 hours. Within that span of time maybe 7 people had come into the shop. Never was it full in there to where I was prohibiting a buying customer a seat. There was maybe one or two other people there at a time other than me. After I was finished working, I got up with my things and used the restroom. When i went to leave, the owner stood outside the bathrooms waiting for me. She said “You buy something now?” And pointed to the counter. I said “No, I decided I don’t want anything.” She said, “You must buy something of you want to spend time here.” I said “There’s no sign on the door that says that. I could go to Starbucks and sit there all day and they would never say something like that to me.” She said, “You sat here 5 hour. Used our electric and restroom. You need to buy something.” I said “What if I was going to bring in a bunch of friends tomorrow and buy a bunch of things because I stayed here today and liked it so much? Now I’m not going to because you’re pressuring me to buy something. This is not how it works at all. This is bad business.” And she said “Ok, you leave.” Which I was doing anyway. I said everything with a kind tone of voice, but wow. This is Korean owned and perhaps their understanding of business and customs are different. And while i completely understand where she’s coming from, even if you’re struggling as a business, this is how you lose customers, by pressuring them to buy things and by being very stingy. It’s a sad mentality. If she hadn’t said anything to me I would’ve come back with friends and probably dropped a generous amount of money plus tips. I won’t be...
Read moreAfter seeing Caffe Bene in Korean dramas, I finally have one near home!
Caffe Bene is a Korean coffee / dessert chain. They offer savory sandwiches, honey toast, waffles, shaved ice, and a variety of coffee and tea beverages. They have plenty of seating, free wifi, and apparently live piano music at select times.
I have visited this location a few times already. The first couple times, I just ordered an Americano - plain and simple. However, I finally visited with someone who wanted to share a snowflake shaved ice dessert. We ordered a Spicy Chicken Sandwich and a Taro Snowflake Shaved Ice.
The Spicy Chicken Sandwich tastes very Korean. If that's even a useful descriptor... The cheese and spicy chicken pair well, and the bread is perfectly toasted. Otherwise, the sandwich is just okay. At around $8, you can probably find a better sandwich elsewhere.
The Taro Snowflake Shaved Ice was soft, smooth, and delicious! Full of taro flavor! The order comes with red bean, vanilla ice cream, mochi, and a side of taro sauce, dressing, syrup, whatever it is called... You are supposed to pour the syrup as you go. You can also request additional syrup on the side if you run out. The extra syrup is free of charge, but it better be, considering the dessert costs $11 (more expensive than other Korean cafes).
Caffe Bene is a cute place to grab a coffee or dessert with friends after dinner or even for a short coffee date with someone. A good addition to the neighborhood's selection of...
Read moreWorst coffe place I could have asked for. 9.30am. Place was death and even so it took 30+ min to get 3 coffees and 2 breads. The customer service is mindnuming!!! Take your stupid hat on. Food selection is like a vending machine, small and poor. Half the menu in MAPs is not right. they will not honor the online menu. Price is incredibly outrageous!!! 7$ for a three inch hard! waffle with five pieces of fruit and ten cents worth of foam. The 'bread' is like a brick, only difference this one came with chocolate drizzle, but instead I used it to fill in a missing brick in my house, so not a total loss. Now the coffee... (this place should be ashamed of the coffee) Sewer water would have being a mayor step up from the horrible, bland, undrinkable piss I received for almost 20$. Since they make a point to say no refunds or changes I did not even bother with the " scholar " of an employee I had already wasted 10 min making a order before. Food was bad, coffee was horrible, and service is mindnuming and to top it off prices require you to sell a kidney. Folks who really value coffe and love good food and service need to stay away. Dont...
