I’m giving this five stars because I really want it to succeed, but I hope the owner will read these comments. The acoustics are the worst of any place I’ve ever been—and I usually roll my eyes at people who complain about acoustics. I’m not sure what they changed because I don’t remember feeling this way about village vine. There was just a level of din/cacophony that made it impossible to talk. In the absence of acoustic updates, one thing that could be done is to have an option to order chips & salsa / chips & guac. That was not an option and it would’ve been appreciated. We noticed that the loud tables that created most of the noise got much quieter when they had food. The food took a while to come, so a quick order of chips and salsa would’ve helped.
The tacos came with a bean soup that we weren’t expecting. I guess it is noted somewhere on the menu, but it wasn’t clear. The soup was good but we weren’t sure what it was at first, what kind of meat was in it (it was hot dog) and we didn’t get a spoon for it. When we asked for a spoon, we got one, even though two of us had the soup. We gave up and shared a spoon.
The tacos were good and we will come back, but I hope some of this...
Read morePluses: friendly staff, great service, fresh ingredients, yummy homemade chips (but no salsa at all in the whole restaurant! How can that be?) Great vibe and atmosphere. Busy even on a weekday—customers seemed happy. Yummy vegetarian tacos with delicious rice and (tiny serving of) refried beans.
Negatives: wait—no complimentary chips and salsa like you find at most Mexican restaurants?! Very disappointing. Servings of guacamole are small and barely any refried beans for all of us. A bit pricey. Very noisy on even a week day. They charge extra for using a credit card so you better bring a ton of cash. Food good but not calling us back with those prices, no chips & salsa and small servings.
They are still new and finding their way. I hope they take some of my suggestions into consideration. I will try again in a couple months. Meanwhile, I may just drive to Wilmington where you get complimentary chips and salsa, frozen margaritas, better prices and quantities and...
Read moreRight near the train station in Swarthmore, Luna’s had good food and friendly service but the vibe is more wine bar with Mexican food than what I think of as a Mexican restaurant. Chips and pico were okay but chips were thick and super crunchy while salsa was flavorful but very wet and drippy. I had the chile rellanos special which used an Italian long hot instead of a poblano and it was flavorful and spicier than expected but tasty. My son had the tacos dorado as a burrito and it was very large. He liked it but it was very starchy with the rice and refried beans rolled up with the beef and potatoes. Again, tasty but a little difficult. The TV behind the bar had the Phillies game on but no one seemed to be watching.
The breakfast menu looks very good and I would...
