My wife and I are Indian, so our pallets have a coat of south Asian spices which can make it difficult for non Asian flavors to really come through. But this place has become our favorite for breakfast. We only eat breakfast here when we go out because we're disappointed everywhere else. The flavors are just right and everything tastes fresh. The service and staff are amazing too. We enjoy their omelettes and hashes the most. If you frequent diners for breakfast you'll be floored by Ellen's. If you're Asian or have exotic spices in your pallet, I think you could be very happy here too.
For what it's worth, I'm not sure what happened, but the bar for quality food post-pandemic has been lowered. But Ellen's has remained consistent or even improved since then. This goes a long way for us... knowing that our hard earned money is best spent at Ellen's.
The space is cute too and we love their traditional bakery up front.
Ample parking.
Price is important to us. To us, food "tastes" better or worse for us depending on price. I'm a frugal person, and I think the prices are very fair. Maybe even slightly under priced compared to their lesser competitors. Sometimes we tip closer to 30% or more compared to my usual 20%.
Their coffee is delicious.
We have never eaten anything other than breakfast and baked goods from their bakery.
If you're not a church goer, I recommend to go on Sundays before church lets out. Otherwise, people know how good this place is so you'll be waiting in line for...
Read moreBy far the worst experience I’ve ever had. My friend and I brought our 5 kids for a midday lunch and the host and the other lady who works there , maybe a manager, was treating us like garbage because our kids were there. Mind you, this is the best we’ve seen our kids behave at a restaurant , they all sat in their chairs, were not loud, and were eating their lunch well, a few giggles here and there . My friend's 2 year old daughter said “Mom” one time and the lady who was not even our waitress said in a very rude and condescending way, “do they need help with something in!?!?!” We said “no? They are fine ?” And she replied “ JUST MAKING SURE.” She then proceeded to talk to her coworker, in front of us, and put her hands up in the hair and huff and puff numerous times . I really am in disbelief right now. IF YOU ARE A FAMILY, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME and they will make you FEEL that you are NOT welcome, they don’t hide it. Our waiter was sweet and he didn’t make us feel like that, that’s the crazy part . It’s the manager and host. Beware. It took a lot for me to walk out without discussing this with them myself, but I let the waiter know. They kept shaking their heads the whole time. A woman dining there told us she was shocked how well behaved our kids were. I’ve never been treated like that before, I’m actually disgusted. If kids aren’t welcome, please let the public know before they dine here, post it on your website, display a sign, verbally...
Read moreHad breakfast here with my small family and never knew it had a restaurant until today. A little line outside but wasn’t more than maybe 10- 15 minutes before we were seated. Environment is fine, contemporary but not overly modern. Has a counter that serves cookies, breads, cakes as well as carry out and curbside. Also has two separate bar tops; one for the breakfast boozers and one for the belly uppers. All great. Excellent patio too but it is in a strip mall. Ordered the spicy sausage hash with scrambled eggs. Very tasty but not spicy. Had to get a side of Frank’s to try and get it up there. Also, they are still practicing Covid guidelines a bit. No shakers on the table, no butter nor jams so have to request everything. Some workers wearing masks, some not. Not a big deal. They ask accommodate for kids without a kids menu. Single egg, single pancake type deal, a la carte, which is helpful. Going to go back for lunch but they do close up around 4 pm. Only missing thing from my experience was the Bloody Mary. It was a bit dreadful and I did feel rushed when I was there eating. Pricing is more than fair as well so no complaints there. Will keep this place in my back...
