Dined in yesterday and was mischarged for an item not on the menu that I have gotten several times in the past called Gomee roll and curry rice with tofu. I did not recieved as much veggies and rice as I have when I ordered in the past the owner told me I was mischarged for the Gomee rolls because the tofu with the curry rice is 4 dollars extra and when I asked why it’s not listed as an additional charge on the menu he said because it’s not a popular add on and because of the preparation but since tofu is not nearly as expensive as chicken is absurd he charges the same price as chicken add on. He told me I could come back and get a free curry rice with extra veggies and extra rice with tofu he also falsely claimed I was charged 4 dollars for the tofu in the past which I know I wasn’t because I would have said something. So I came when I came in and told the server I had a credit for a free curry rice with tofu extra veggies and rice multiple times he sat me at a table by the sushi bar and kitchen gave me a dirty look and I over heard him in the kitchen telling the owner for curry rice with tofu extra rice but didn’t mention extra veggies so I had to remind another server. While I was dining in I noticed I actually got the same amount of veggies as last night and less tofu but extra rice before it got to me I over heard the same server that seated me in the kitchen telling the owner a customer was pyscho for complaining about the rice having gluten in it. It made me extremely uncomfortable in the restaurant and making a comment about a customer like that is extremely inappropriate. I don’t believe I have ever came acrossed a restaurant that will charge me for things not listed on the menu as a charge and I thought it was unprofessional and bad business practice that they did. The server could have told me tofu is the same price as the chicken add on since it’s not even listed on the menu as a charged add on. Nor have I ever came across a restaurant where I can hear talking in the kitchen not matter how far away or close I am to the kitchen. Extremely disappointed with this dine...

This used to be a nice place, and I used to come here a lot, but I haven't been in a while, and I won't be returning. We ordered hot teas and edamame. I ordered a sashimi salad and grilled asparagus, and my friend ordered two sushi rolls, a noname and something else I can't recall. We both ordered miso soup. While the food was good, it was the quality of the service that really spoiled the evening for us. The waitress was inattentive, and disappeared for long times. My meal came out slowly (20 min), and my friend's meal took even longer (45 min). By the time my friend's meal came out, I was done eating. I had to wave down a waitress to see where the food was at because nobody visited our table during this time. At the end of the meal I complained to the waitress about the excessive wait time for my friend, and she made excuses about a backed up sushi bar and offered an insincere apology. No discount or comp was offered. I warned her we would not return, but she didn't care, she just said, 'Oh, okay'. I understand being backed up, but if you are going to inconvenience your customers, you should be willing to comp them for it. You should also be attentive to the table. We ran out of hot tea and received no visits. I didn't even see the waitress, she was someplace in the back of the restaurant, not out serving other tables. The dining room was only half full. Why would a half empty restaurant be backed up? The whole experience was poor, disappointing, and we will not be returning. I used to recommend this place, but I will...

My husband and I went to Kotobuki at the recommendation of a friend. It took about 15 minutes to be seated (no big deal). There was a HUGE party of maybe 25-30+ people, many of them tweens and children who were wandering around the restaurant with little to no supervision from their parents. It was also deafeningly loud. It took several minutes for a server to greet us and to take our drink order. Fast forward about an hour. We had ordered shumai as an appetizer and had not received it. We had only been given a small salad. The server did stop by our table and said it was going to be a bit because the kitchen was “very backed up.” After another 15 minutes, the server was no where to be seen. The table next to us (who had been sat before we did) had received their miso soup only a few minutes prior and the massive party was still waiting on their hot food. We weren’t getting our food any time soon. We wanted our bill so we could leave, but, as I said earlier, our server was no where to be seen. We left a $20 on the table to cover my beer, Perrier, and iced tea and we walked out. I’ve NEVER had to do this before.

Im not sure who’s at fault. The restaurant seemed woefully unprepared for such a huge party. On the other hand, the party was extremely loud and rude to the wait staff. Ultimately, the restaurant should have known it couldn’t accommodate such a large group because everyone else’s experience suffered.

That being said, I’m willing to give this place a second chance, and I will change this review if our...

This is my highest rating review ever! I would give 6 stars if I could! You won't be disappointed at all! I have been going there for 20 years!! I can't believe the quality hasn't changed one bit. It is rare to find a Japanese restaurant that has both good kitchen food and good sushi. I live in Chicago now and have had their fair share of 'fancy' restaurant. Kotobuki doesn't try to create anything weird or new like others, but stick to just good standard high quality food. I don't usually like ginger dressing on salad, but these are homemade. They are so good! Yakitori was very good too. I haven't had this good for awhile! The sauce is definitely not store bought. Nabeyaki udon! Wow! I've been eating that for 20 years. It is still just as good!! I really can't believe it. Plus, what restaurant would give you this many shiitake mushroom?! The soup is so good and satisfying :) <3 Dude. Ika and tako were so good! Seriously where did they get they fish from? Normally, this woulda cost 3x as much for this quality! Thank you Dennis for keeping this place up to such a high quality all these years! I felt like going home eating from my grandma <3

I recently visited kotobuki and was pleasantly surprised by the authentic taste of the food. The dishes tasted like they were straight from Japan, and the sushi was especially impressive. The ambience of the restaurant was also very good, with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. One of the highlights of the dining experience was the presentation of the sushi, which was brought to the table in a small boat. This added an exciting and unique touch to the meal, and made it a memorable experience. Overall, I would highly recommend this Japanese restaurant for anyone looking for delicious and authentic Japanese food in a comfortable setting.

This place is selling instant ramen for $10. It used to be homemade, but it changed sometime in the couple years since I last visited. Save yourself the money and buy the Shin Black package at Kroger, because that’s what they’re using. You can hear the microwave running in the back. I get staffing shortages, but come on, this is disingenuous. Peep the instant-ramen-beef-chunk circled in the second pic.
