Stopped by for some takeout. Parking was a little challenging but a simple pass around the block was enough to allow a spot to free up. I had ordered ahead and just needed to run in and grab my order. My order was ready and hot when they promised. The crusts are formed in a press which makes the dough lose its structure and makes it a bit chewy. I found that you can place the pizza in your home oven for ten minutes and crisp up the outside of the crust making a delicious pizza even better. Many pizza places sell Garlic Knots that are coated in garlic. These are much better. The Garlic is throughout the knot, making a milder more enjoyable Garlic Knot that isn't going to knock your significant other on the floor when you get too close, yet it has the flavor you expect. We want for the "Not Your Mother's Margarita" and a basic pepperoni pizza. Both were good, both were made with better quality ingredients. Both were made even better by crisping up the crust in the oven. The pepperoni isn't the normal pepperoni most people use. It's a little larger and has really good flavor....
Read moreI felt obligated to update since my last review, as I'm feeling more mixed since my last experiences. Gaines Street Pies (midtown) is one of my go-to places for lunch. You can't beat the 2 slices+drink lunch special. They do a fantastic job at providing it to-go. It seems fresh, though I know they're re-baking the slices after adding the toppings. The cheese/sauce/toppings ratio is always great.
Where my experiences have been poor is when I order any pizzas around dinner time. The last couple times, the pizzas are not cooked enough, having a dough-y and overly chewy texture. There was barely any sauce, making it dry. The toppings were extremely sparce, too. I paid for 3 toppings (sausage, meatball, and pepperoncini). What's the point if they're literally going to put 3 small pieces of sausage on it?
Hopefully my complaints are only applicable to the Midtown location, and it's not the same with their other locations. We decided to splurge on some better pizzas, not wanting fastfood-types, but were let down once again. At least Dominos and Pizza Hut are...
Read moreI adore Midtown Pies. Was thrilled GSP got a sister much closer to my residence. Superb ingredients, my first taste test was the One with Everything on it, as supreme-style pizzas are my benchmark when I try a new location. Though I prefer crumbled sausage to sliced, it was still a damned good pie. Also ventured into one of their more unorthodox specialty pies, the White Sword. Not disappointed there either--I'm already dreaming about the Bleu Boomerang for my next trip. The parking is admittedly tricky, but they also just added delivery to my area, so that might settle that. It's located in a smaller shopping-, office-, and lifestyle venue. The dining area offers a variety of small tables, large tables, booths, and bar seating. Decor is perhaps polished rustic? Definitely more muted than the GSP location, but enjoyable at either. When out-of-town friends come to TLH, and they ask for pizza, we take...
