I seldom get the chance to go out and enjoy a nice meal at a restaurant. My friend and I decided to end our week at Liberty. The server was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. The food was good and so was my first cocktail. BUT THEN I told the server I did not like my second cocktail. I had only taken 3 sips. I wanted to order something else. I NEVER said I was not going to pay for the beverage I ordered and did not like. I only wanted to order something else. I am assuming the protocol is to send the manager over if there is a complaint. I did not have a complaint, I just wanted something else.
A red headed woman with curly hair walks over to our table and asked me what the problem was. I said there is no problem but I would like a different cocktail. She started to talk down to me and began to "mansplain" the original cocktail to me. As if her telling me about this specail ingredient was going to somehow change the way my tastebuds felt about it. Condescendingly asked me if I had ever had an ingredient that was in the cocktail. Her explaining why I should like the cocktail and somehow judging me for never having an ingredient in it, went on for several minutes. It was not a quick exchange. The tables next to us stopped talking to listen in. At the end she asked me what I wanted her to do about it. I simply said, "nothing. I don't want YOU to do anything".
I got the server's attention and told him I needed the check immediately. I should have said my grievances to the unprofessional and unwelcoming manager, instead of the server. Someone promote the young man that looks like a young Ryan Phillippe. His personality is a better fit for a customer facing position.
You had one job, "Karen". One job. Ask me what cocktail I would...
Read moreVisiting Tallahassee for a football game with my younger sisters (both of whom didn't attend FSU, sadly) and like many who have explored the streets of Tallahassee for solid brunch spots over the years, many will agree that there have been very few worth standing in line for. Liberty is most certainly one of those places that I would. This charming restaurant takes many brunch classics and elevates them to another level. It's clear that the culinary minds behind the menu were influenced by every region in the south, from [Nashville] Hot Chicken to a Tex-Mex inspired omelette (aptly named, "Lonestar").
The theme of this particular brunch visit? Fried everything. As someone who is obsessed with eggs in every form, I couldn't resist the Scotch Egg. It was a fried ball of flawless execution -- a perfectly soft-boiled egg at the center of house-made roasted garlic sausage. The best was yet to come, it seems. Up next - Soft-shell Crab Benedict which was a flavor party of lightly fried soft-shell atop a slice of toasted sourdough bread that was lathered with a Cajun remoulade layered with fresh tomato then dressed with silky hollandaise and chives. Pure artistry. Lastly - Fried Green Tomato Omelette. Heavenly and fluffy, stuffed with crispy green tomatoes and pimento cheese. My only complaint... is that it wasn't big enough because I definitely wanted more :-P.
Overall, from the hospitality to ambiance to the food... everything about Liberty makes you want to take a moment and thank everyone involved with its creation and bringing absolute gastronomic satisfaction to everyone who walks through their doors. This is, unquestionably, one of the best brunch places in all of Tallahassee. Choosing not to eat here would be a great disservice to your stomach.

Read moreI have been here twice and my experiences regarding the service were very different. Night and day really.
My first time was fantastic. 5 stars! I sat at the bar with a friend. Our bartender was fabulous! Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and super attentive! I wish I could remember his name, but I recall he had dark mid-length curly hair and a nose ring. The food and drinks were also fantastic and he helped me to choose drinks on the menu that I loved!
Shout out to the kitchen because the food is wonderful!
I also visited yesterday night with a group of 10, which I understand can be overwhelming. I’m pretty patient, as I know what it’s like to work in service and how overwhelming and overstimulating it can be. However, when I first arrived, I sat at the bar for a considerable amount of time before I got service. Everyone around me was asked what they wanted. After a while of waiting with my card in-hand, I sort of just blurted out what I wanted as the bartender passed by and then she acknowledged me and took my order. I would have just chalked it up to it being busy and overwhelming had it not happened AGAIN later on in the night. While I was waiting for service, people walked up to the bar and got asked what they wanted IMMEDIATELY as I stood waiting to even be acknowledged. I was frustrated so I walked to the other side of the bar and another bartender took my order and closed my tab out. This experience put a bit of a damper on a really good night for me. Everything else was fantastic. I am recalling my experience from my perspective how I remember it, and I’m hoping that maybe it was just a one-off thing or...
