I'm sitting here right now in the restaurant and haven't even fully finished my food while writing this 5 star review. I almost never write restaurant reviews either, but I had to give this place 5 stars. I've been missing Greek food for over a year and also have been having trouble eating. As soon as I sank my teeth into the gyro, any trouble I usually have went away. All I could focus on was how delicious the food was and how authentic and fresh it tasted. I had tried buying a tzatziki sauce at Publix but that store-bought sauce DOES NOT COMPARE to this homemade recipe, and I am not exaggerating. The food was piping hot when I was given it, and the baklava looked obviously made at the restaurant and not at a factory or what not. All of the food tasted freshly prepared and, as I said earlier, absolutely delicious. I didn't realize how much I was missing real Greek food. A piece of baklava, a lamb gyro with no side, and a spinach cheese pie appetizer (I didn't buy a drink) was about $20, which is not too bad (especially considering the amazing quality of this food). I highly suggest trying the lamb gyro and baklava especially, and I will for sure be eating here again! Pay attention to the restaurant hours because this restaurant does close at 4 pm, I asked to make sure since I was confused by the sign outside. I walked in at 3 pm on a Wednesday during finals week and it wasn't too busy! Will for sure be taking my dad here the next time he visits me; he loves finding the best places to eat wherever he travels, and he will not be disappointed here! I'm considering even buying some leftovers to eat later for dinner. I wish this place was open later since I have late classes and I would eat here all the...
Read moreAs soon as you walk in you understand that this is a family business that has been operating with the same spirit as they have been 30+ years ago. The floor creaks a bit, and the furniture is all quite old. However, all of this adds a history, charm, and personality that not many places in Tallahassee can say they offer. Not to say that the place isn't relatively clean, though, so I have no qualms about the rusticness of it all. Listen, If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This is most likely the mantra that this restaurant operates on. However, that does not mean there is no room for improvement, as the hummus leaves a lot to be desired. It is, ironically, by far the worst hummus I've ever tried in my life. The two times I tried the hummus it felt like it was sitting for days. There's barely any flavor, and the texture is that of simple ground up chickpeas. It's a shame, because the pita fries are awesome, and they would go great with some smooth hummus and olive oil...How has this place stood the test of time then? It's in the name: their Gyros. Wow, these are amazing. I can only speak for the Vegan one, "The Rocket," and it is super messy, but super delicious. The sauce coats all the ingredients nicely, and there is a unique tangy punch that is softened by the warm and pillowy pita bread it is wrapped in. I can only imagine how the animal-based ones taste, but since both times I came in, Janette was busy with many orders, I can tell it is fantastic. For a price just under $10 and wait times under 5 minutes, you can't go wrong with this...
Read moreNew owners - not the same. Not good. We wanted to like it but it's bleh. Too much salt on everything. Tzatziki sauce is not right - lumpy - maybe feta in there?? Does not belong - does not taste like traditional tzatziki at all. Also very salty. Our 'gyro' sandwiches were a disappointment- barely any meat and the meat we had was not hand formed or carved off a spit. We've had authentic- this isn't it. Restaurant had authentic with former owners. The price is too much for what they are serving. Feta does not belong on a gyro. There was so much feta and tzatziki you couldn't see anything else. Overkill on feta and sauce. A gyro sandwich has gyro meat. It was a sloppy disappointment. With very little thin chunks of precut meat from a food service. The cost almost $40 for two gyro sandwiches (no sides/drinks) - and extra pita/tzatziki on side- too expensive- poor quality. Won't go back. People were nice enough but bragged that they are better than the Greeks that established the restaurant- not true - humble yourself and learn what traditional...
